you have absolutely no idea wtf you're talking about. I see you guys get on these forums coming off like geniuses and b!tch about "difficult to tune" carbs regarding regular bn's all the time and it just cracks me smooth the hell up, and what it basically boils down to is that you don't have any business even trying to "tune" them in the first place, let alone giving someone else advice on how to tune theirs, for christs sake. if you don't want to actually learn how to do it then let someone else do it for you. but don't trashtalk someone that knows.
why don't you just get into a hobby that your lazy attitudes can actually at least half way wrap your brains around. this one obviously ain't it..lol

I, for one, completely agree.
Who better to tune a carb than the guy who's blown up more 30-minute engines than I will ever dream of seeing?

"cracks you smooth the hell up"????

:jester:

you must be running lean..... must be that cheezy bn non-removable brass plug with the little hole in it restricting your brain of necessary fuel.

funny, i figured opening the pilot adjustor would smooth you the hell out.

:haha:

just kidding, t-boner!

its obvious that your brain is flooded with gasoline and kmart oil.

maybe the stock BN settings are a little too rich for you.

perhaps you need a smaller restrictor in your return line.

oh, and your pulse is weak, genius.

I, for one, welcome our BN-carb tuning overlord.

youre right, matt.....

anyone that can tune ANY engine with:

15/16 of a turn on the top screw
1 and 1/8 on the middle,
1 and 5/16 on the bottom (pilot)

is a TUNING GENIUS!

who needs klowns like tim at novi-tec????

To tune it to your specific application.

There are five tuning parameters on an SBN
- Popoff pressure (spring & float valve)
- Low speed screw
- Pilot jet
- Main jet
- Hi speed screw

the sbn manual has a generalized chart that will get you close to where you need to be in the field of jetting specs for your particular setup, but it mostly will depend on what's been done (if anything) to the cylinder, and what pipe you're using. for the sbn's you will need a "set" of jets to play around changing them out with until you get it precisely tuned. read the manual in it's entirety.

setup= carb, matt. I know you thought I meant engine size vs. particular carb. no.

again, jetting will mostly depend on what's been done (if anything) to his cylinder, and what pipe he uses.

Gotcha.
I could have sworn you said....

My mistake.

I feel compelled to point out that page 19 of said Mikuni manual shows how OEM Mikuni carburetors come from the factory.

Jetting will vary wildly depending on engine setup.

xKawi550x - you might post in the Vintage/Kawi forum here and on PWCToday and see what people recommend for that setup with that carb.
Someone is bound to run something similar.

it's been awhile since I set mine up for a 550 so from memory I don't recall exactly what the numbers are for the jets I ended up with to get it to run good, it was a PITA going through all of that , everybody's riding and I'm riding, changing jets, riding, changing jets, etc.. lots of fun. tomorrow I can take them out an give you the exact numbers on the ones I use. I always set my skis up to burn a little oil though, I really don't give a rats4ss what the EPA says, they didn't pay for my motors, and until they do, I will burn as much oil as I need to keep a healthy engine..lol

for the 3rd time...lol again, it will mostly be determined by what's been done ( if anything) to his cylinder, and what pipe he runs, pitch of prop, etc...

if he's running the same pipe (which is a shorty stainless chamber), and cylinder as the setup I have in a 550 running the sbn 44, then he's going to need pretty darn close to, if not the same settings I'm running.

when you use a small chamber and low pitched prop, the rpms get pretty far up there, that requires a larger jetting on the top so as not to run it too lean and burn. also, because there's not as much load on the engine from idle to mid-range because of the props pitch, the low speed is not so sensitive to a richer condition hampering the transition from low speed to top rpms.
