Be careful putting them in. Take your time. Ground yourself out. Line them up nice and then click them in to place.

Memory is very sensitive to ESD due to the fact that there is no place for static to discharge.

I always unplug the machine and then hold the power button in to drain all remaining energy from the capacitors on the motherboard.

I would normally ground myself but never thought of holding in the power button.

Oh an ditch your old stick(s) for sure!! And don't panic if you get a DOA stick. I get them often....from all manufacturers....just RMA it through Newegg and the next set will be fine.

That seems wasteful.

As long as the stick work, don't throw them out.

The 3200 mem will smoke the old stuff. The old mem will cause the new mem to run at 266 insead of 400.

He probably only has 2 slots anyway.....and if so he is getting a new machine soon anyways....pretty much will have to at some point.

Much faster and time to load up turbo tax.
Thank you for all of your help everyone. This computer might be coming out of the basement and going up stairs. I should have done this months ago.
How do i check the clock speed of the chip to see what it is running at.
