I like the wide field of view and the 32GB SD option, on an oregon scientific that would be 16 hours. video looks good but is about the same as the OS. it all depends on how you save the file. the gopro is probably the best self contained unit. im gonna stick with my OS for now.

DJ Sorry I can’t help you with the Tachyon X, (Website?) but with my (limited) experience in filming the O’side crew videos It seems all the current helmet camera manufactures have about the same picture quality. The biggest weakness all these cameras have is the battery system they use. Most use regular triple A batteries which have poor performance. What they need is a rechargeable lithium Ion battery like the one in your cell phone or digital camera. If the Tachyon X uses this type of battery I would say go for it and let me know so I can get one too. If it uses triple A batteries like the other cameras you might as well stick with your existing camera, your videos look good.

that bike video was using the mounting system that came with the camera and i never could get smooth video. now im using zip-ties and a small piece of hydroturf under the camera and now the only shaking is when my head moves.

Hey dj I just got the tachyon but haven't had a chance to try it yet other than strapping it to the dog. I got a wallet-sized clear dry bag I'm going to use for the remote. Should be better than the old atc2k at least. I'd let you check it out in daytona but rumor has it you pussed out on another ride? :pokey:

Only thing I don't like so far is the mount looks ridiculous on my helmet even when the camera is not mounted. The old oreg sci had a pretty low profile mount.

The Tachyon XC is a nice camera but the 30 frames per second spec is on the lowest resolution while the ATC2K and ATC3K do 30 FPS on the highest resolution.

Also that video appears to color enhanced for advertizing IMO.

i agree about the color enhancing. the video quality looks to be about the same. i can record 2-3 hours on duracell rechargable batteries with ATC2k. the 2k has 46 degree view angle and that is my only complaint. if i upgrade it will be either the 3K or a gopro. i have also never had a problem with the battery compartment coming open but i know another board member has.

I've had 3 different helmet cams over the years and the vid quality all looks the same ,I had one that cost me $500 with waterproof case and remote and another one that cost a little less than that down to the ATC-2K .The vids look all the same .

No I didn't. I've looked and can't seem to find Rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries in a triple "A" configuration anywhere. I've been using these NiHM Nicad rechargables which are crap. They don't seem to hold up to the cold water very well. Where have you seen triple "A" Rechargeable Lithium Ion Batteries?

those are plain lithium batteries.

most li-ion types carry more voltage than a regular AAA sized battery, and if you put three or four of those into a device that uses three or four regular 1.2 or 1.5 volt cells, they will kill the device.

you just need some good 1.2 or 1.5 volt lithium cells that are designed for use in cameras and devises that pull a heavy drain on cells. "energizer max" for example,etc..

These are the crappy NiHM Nicads I've been using. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.
