have you ever ridden lake MI? When there is waves?

Way too choppy. If you have a pier to ride the backside or a north or south wind is where the cleanest swells are. Straight north is good. One of the best days last year was Oct 20th. Winds out of the north over 30kts and the south side of Hollands pier was perfect 5-8ft sets.

Waves in LM tend to over lap each other coming from different directions when due west. Both sides of the pier can be about the same on those days. When you have good waves the curls are on the backside of the piers. On good days it is night and day on the S/N sides. North winds are teh biggest i have seen. The video that started this thread is poetry in motion....only due to being next to the pier (rock formation in other clips of same spot).

Port Sheldon can be damn right scary for an advanced rider....being so narrow. :lightning:

There isn't enough lake for them to set up....NE or N adds a couple extra hundred miles for them to form.

btw...run your spitters up your handlepole and have them spray onto your hands. Keeps you SOOO much warmer. This was invented by our Canadian friends up north.

Bingo.
Riding the waves last weekend was right on the edge of needing handwarmers. I'm hooking them up tonight. One other benefit is the fact that you can use your thin summer gloves instead of bulky 3mm cold weather gloves. You feel way more in control with thin gloves on.

And like Turbo626 and djkorn said, North winds on Lake Michigan build the best waves (south sides of the piers).

I'm itchin to stick a backie this year. I tried 3 last week and face planted from 10 feet up.

alright, no lake mi. for me this weekend/season:rant: but i will get in a filming session behind a nice wakeboard boat...i think. and i am def. gonna do the hand warmers

super rob pm me your number. I am going up to visit Kyle (team alpine) on sunday morning. I could pick you up or something before we go ride. I have two nice digital cameras and a tripod to keep the filming straight even if it is really windy.

Hmmmm. I am thinking about hitting Holland instead of Port Sheldon on Sunday. With waves that big, the Holland channel won't be quite so insane.
I think monstersj is in as well.

Hopefully they aren't directly out of the west.....they are going to be messy with that much wind.
Call me Turbo.......don't ride alone in 10-14's.

THEY are calling for 14-18 now. Not a chance i will be out there alone with them being that big. http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/LM/844.html?MR=1

Don't worry bud, i will call you before we head up there. Forecast is calling for showers in the afternoon.

Lake Michigan is significantly bigger than Ontario, plus Toronto is not the best location for waves on that lake. I would assume that St. Catharines in NY would be good with strong NE winds.

Sunday the waves were big...probably 10 to 15 footers. However, they were the nastiest sloppy junk I have ever seen. You literally couldn't do anything with them except ride around.
Sorry, couldn't get anyone to take video. Yesterday actually looked like a really nice clean day.....wish I could have gone.
