rear bondrail repair

I tried to pull in a SJ that was 1/2 full of water a few weeks ago and it ripped 1/2 my rear bondrail off. It was already cracked & weak from hitting bottom & other towing adventures.
I built it up extra thick insted of trying to reglass the broke piece back in. Here's the half-ass repair pics.

Ground down the surrounding area that was jagged & rough.

After the thick weave layer dried, I sawed off the overhanging excess, resanded ,& used a few layers of chopped mat, then a few layers of thin cloth to finish off smoothly.
It turned out thicker than original and the shape is not quite right, but I'm happy with it and I can tow a brotha in need again. Each year at Daytona I always end up towing at least a couple of people.

I have since sanded the final layer & returfed. Will get final pics to post tomorrow.

For the turf & underpadding I used a layer of the regular Hydro Turf underpadding with a layer of thick shop floor padding on top. In hindsight, I should have put the HT on top, as the floor padding is not as soft. Before, I had 2 layers of HT underpadding where my feet go. My back likes lots of padding.
The line where the old HT met the new HT was not the exact same level so I used some black sealant (like caulk) to make it a smooth transition.
I only had access to grey turf w/o buying a whole new black piece, so I said WTF, & used it.
I ordered one of the extra long bow eyes from Blowsion to get through all the padding.
