Yamaha 760cc Kit

I´ve been offered a brand new original Yamaha 760cc kit with pistons, head and cylinder thru my local Yamaha dealer to a killer price.

I guess it´s the same kit that comes with the Rius edition.

Does anyone have any experience of this kit?

I was thinking of using that kit with the original 38mm carbs, original exhaust and an MSD enhancer. (Just until the end of this season, next year I will upgrade with factory pipe and so on).

So I was hoping for some comments on this setup, good or bad?

Thx

I never really understood if these were 760 couch cylinders or something specially made for this app.

I bet they are couch cylinders and if so I would rather have 701 porting. I have both and my 701 is more fun to ride.

Sorry, what do you mean by "couch cyliders"?

So you mean that these cylinders wont provide me any more bottom end power than a 701?

What I do know is that these are specially made kits from Yamaha, and you are able to buy them for a special price, if you buy a brand new ski from Yamaha.

for the money you would spend, you could send your cylinders off to get ported, This would give you way more power than just bolting on a set of 760 cylinders.

I would imagine you would save money that you could spend towards other parts instead.

i was wondering the same thing.
i have a 84mm cylinder stamped 62t.what is this?.exhaust port height is about 39.6 from top deck

Yeah but these cylinders will not cost me any major amount of money so I´ll get one set anyway.
But apart from the porting, if we just keep both cylinders stock, wouldn´t the 760 give me more bottom end power then the 701?

it depends on if the 760 cylinder is an off the shelf 64x ( couch) cylinder, or if its something special, such as the 760 sized bore, with the 61x 701 port timing configuration.

in typical form the 760 cylinders have a higher exhaust port, this moves the powerband from the low rpm range, into the higher range, cruising speeds of a couch.

this can be changed with compression and timing, but, as far as simply bolting a couch 760 cylinder in place of a 701 cylinder, you will gain mid and top, but likely loose some bottom.

now, some people use 760 cylinders with success, so take it all with a grain of salt.

My guess is that it´s a 64x (couch) cylinder.
You have not heard about this kit from Yamaha?

But if we put 2 different examples below, wich one would you choose?
(Keep in mind that this is just and temporary setup, later on I will upgrade with an factory pipe and so on.)

Stock engine with 760cc cylinders, head and stock exhaust.
Stock 38mm carbs.
MSD Enhancer.
Stock pump with 12/17 Skat trak.
Worx 228 intake.

or the oposite

Stock engine with 701cc cylinders, head and stock exhaust.
Stock 38mm carbs.
MSD Enhancer.
Stock pump with 12/17 Skat trak.
Worx 228 intake.

I just got got informed that the 760 head was not compatible with the stok exhaust bracket.
But it should be ok to use the 700 head to, right?

I appreciate all the information so far!

many folks will tell you the 701 cylinder "hits" harder.

I personally am building a 64x 760 cylinder based engine to replace a 61x701 based engine because the 701 does not impress me enough ( with stock porting)

there is much more to it than simply which cylinder you run though.

If its cheap, id buy it, just to have some options in the future.

But, I wouldnt swap to it yet, given the current setup you just layed out.

Okey!

So a non ported 760 is no better than a non ported 701 with the setup I just posted?

Will there be any big difference if I choose the non ported 760 cylinders, 760 heads and say a Factory B Pipe?

I´m located in Sweden ;)

All I know about theese kits is that, you get an offer when you buy a new SJ to upgrade with theese cylinders for a small amount of money.

I managed to get a hold on one kit for an even smaller amount of money.

do a search for "62t cylinder" or " port timing"

grab a drink, and do some reading.

Hehe yeah, I´ll do that!! ;)

I have some pretty competent friends back here to, but it´s allways nice to hear some more propositions to!

But anyway, big thx for all the info so far.

Both of mine are stock porting.

I do need to put the 13/16-3 on the 760 some day though to be sure.

But the 701 is so snappy I have no need.

The 760 definitely screams! I can actually clearly here the extra 50cc when the motors are running. Sounds like a hot rod!

But the 760 with its 14/18.5 is not as fun to ride as my 701 IMO.

So how does your overall setup look like on the 760?

What do you ride, freestyle, freeride or racing?

oh , here we go again....
