RN SJ vs. FX-1

This winter I want to build a freeride boat. I have been working on my sxi pro doing some minor stuff and really enjoy learning while turning wrenches.

Anyways, I have been looking around for some SJ (RN or SN) hulls, and actually have an offer for a SN (stoked!). But, I am wondering what the difference is between the RN SJ and FX-1. I also found an FX-1 hull that is in desperate need of some work, in which I am willing to do. But, I want to start from scratch, and start in the right area.

Any input appreciated!!

some guys on here will tell you the fx1 is better than a sj and the ones who like it, like it allot...ive ridden a few and honestly cant stand them....id say 100% build a sj there is no reason to be at a disadvantage...and that square nose is sitting there..you can come get it for free anytime

and yes they are harder to find parts for but allot of stuff is interchangeable with a sj

so basically the difference is that its much narrower and quite squirrly..it has a tiny little pump in it and the pole pivot location is very high making it feel very top heavy in my opinion..

the only bad thing about the fx1 is the pump .........change the pump to a 650sx pump and put tubbies on it and you will love it......
and most parts are the same as superjets except pump fueltank.....thats about it..and ive owned both fx1 and rn.

depends on what you like....but i would highly suggest a fx-1. very different boats and both are great in different aspects

I have ridden both and if I was going to build a boat for flatwater only I would go with the FX-1 without a doubt. They are super small and light weight. They can be flicked and thrown around and are a blast to ride even when stock so a built ski would be great.

Make sure that you widen the tray and get a new pump then the thing would ride like a lightweight SJ hull with 1/3 the cost.

I love the FX1, I rode one for a long time. After being on the SJ for a couple of years I can't ride one for ******** now. But I still love em, and so do lots of others.

I think ultimatly the SJ is better platform all round.

i could never believe how well you rode one. i said back then if you ever got on a superjet you would be amazing. and you are! :flowers1:

but back on topic....i agree....sj (square or round)

no argument

cool thing about the fx is it is so SMALL

i have been off mine now for 6 months on the REV, it will be interesting to get back on the F1

THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE GREAT INPUT!! A lot of knowledge on here and it is great to read.

LBE, Sweet looking FX1 man!! I would be interested if I had the dough, but sadly I dont. This build I am getting into will be done in baby steps over winter. Thank you for the reply though and good luck on your sale.

I think I am going to go ahead and follow through with the SN SJ guys....seems like the ebst bet. Lookin forward to it!

if your building from the hull up, why waste that much time/money on a sn? you can find a rn hull for 800 bucks. theres a lot of labor involved

i gotta fx1 for 1650 ready to go:Banane19:

Well, one of the main reasons is because Wydopen is a super cool dude and offered a SN hull for free:bananajump: .

And, this is going to be a learning experience for me. I will get a RN later on when I am ready to do a more complicated build.
