Help Me diagnose my problem

a year ago i built my sj and i have had no problems with it since i built it. yesterday i put on a brand new oem fuel filter and closed my top pipe screw because it has been running cold. well i took it out this morning and as soon as i took off it sputtered until i held it wide open for a while, then it would be fine. so i put brand new plugs in it and the same thing. i disconnected the heat sensor and that didnt help. this ski has been smooth through all rpms with no hesitation before and ill i changed was the pipe adjustment screw and the fuel filter. any help is greatly appreciated. my list of mods is below so you can maybe figure my problem out.

i mean it sputters everytime i let back off the throttle and the rpms drop back in the midrange. the sputtering was like a bad hesitation. i didnt try putting the pipe screw back because i didnt have the tools with me. is it possible that half a turn in on the top screw could make that big of a difference? the bottom is open about a half turn and it was still running cool enough for me to keep my hand in the pisser water.

i don't believe you would feel a difference in the water temperature at the pisser no matter how much you alter the headpipe settings. the water being injected into the pipe goes out the exhaust.

I don't think a screw change would cause your problem.

Might have an air leak in a fuel line from yanking on them to change the filter.

all the fuel lines look good. im going to take it to the lake tomorrow to try some things. are there any things you guys suggest i try to see if it fixes my problem tomorrow.

remove the fuel filter and see what happens. If no change return the water screw to previous setting. If there is still no difference you unknowingly changed something else. No kinks or leaks in a fuel line?
