another vote for screws and silicon...id say no more water gets in there than any other through hull fitting..

no offense to any of you guys but a washer epoxied to your tray dosnt hold..maybe in some east coast ankle slappers :pokey:

the tray is way too thin for screws alone imo, wyds got his reinforced with carbon so that will probly stay on without a problem, but as stock its maybe a 1/8" of glass+gelcoat. i ripped mine out after a few months and potted in 2.5"x2.5"x.125" stainless plates drilled and screwed through those and the tray. adding that metal should make it a very solid base to screw into. rtv silicone will seal those holes up very well. rtv

thats what I used RTV...

I am planning on re-enforcing the tray here in the next month or two... still just trying to find that perfect strap position.

get over yourself...

epoxy and washers work just fine.

best method is a .1875" aluminum plate epoxied to the tray and then tap 10-32 machine screws into that..... and not through the tray

i just used some gnarly course threaded screws that were lyin around my shop and put them in slowly with a screwdriver to make sure they grabbed well.

if youve ripped your straps out when they were installed like this, you have your foot too far in the strap. as taylor said on page one of this thread your straps should only allow you to get your toes in there.

stop crying nick and move out here already, cant wait for the day.

if taylor and andrew go to daytona i may see you out there nick.

:hitwithrock:

guess i cant work with that stuff then...kinda funny everything else ive done seems to work just fine...but my washers didnt even last 5min .when you are in the straps 100% of the time they get alot more stress put on them instead of just using a front one a couple times a ride..

those must be some really short screws not to go trough the plate and tray :cool2:

it goes through the plate, not the tray... and obvioulsly they will be short enough not to go into the tray...

so you uses screws less than a 1/4??

the strap is about a 1/8th thick..hows the screw not gonna go through the metal too if its only .1825??..either way your foam gets wet..i dont get what you are arguing about...all the metal does is make it stronger not watertight

Joe... id love to see you rip west coast surf,Ive never seen anyone with that kinda surfstyle,id compare your style to someone else with your name but i dont wana hear flamers warming up their blow torches. maybe its in the name or sumpin, lol

I vote for the highroller front foothold, and a 24/7 footwell in the back, the front hold works fine with 4 big stainless wood screws and the back hold works great at holding the toe. and leaves room in the tray to step around for reverse moves, plus you dont have to worry bout gettin "caught up " in either one, although i will say its very difficult for me to roll in these type holds riding surf style,i find it much easier to roll both feet in the holds, but im sure more skilled riders could roll this ski surf style with these holds

my point stands that drilling through the tray is bad advice... That pretty much sums it up bro...

I am not really concerned w/ how you guys do it... If ya want water logged foam, rip it up... I'm just saying it's probably not the best advice to be giving people...

:Banane25:

edit: it was 1/4" aluminum plate. My bad

 The best waves I've ridden were in Cali though it's been over 20yrs :dunno:

Thanks for the compliment!!! When I got my SJ new the first thing I did was to copy JK's setup. In Daytona 06 he rode my ski:biggthumpup:

^Exactly how I feel, and that's why I opted for the straps instead of the footwells. I rode my friend's SXR with the wells, and I just wasn't comfortable in them. I feel a lot more flexible in the straps, and I know I am locked in good.
