Dropping gut - the check in thread.

I went from 221 to 224 after I stopped having low fat yogurt for breakfast (haven't been eating breakfast) and having a few to many beers on occasion over the last few weeks.

Time to get back to dropping.

Aww what the hell, here's my stats: 24 yo, 5' 9", 193 lbs, 12-13% body fat, 44" chest, 33" waist, 17.5" arms This time last year I was about 178 lbs and same BF percentage. It's amazing what you can do with sheer diet alone.

And for those of you talking about getting a personal trainer, I almost advise not to waste your money. Doing a little research on the internet and asking advice from some people at the gym (ones who have results but don't stick a needle in their ass) can do wonders for you. Take everything you hear with a grain of salt, practice proper form, and see what your body tells you when you workout. What works for some doesn't work for others. Getting a workout partner can also be extremely effective.

I honestly don't care what I weigh, as long as I look good and proportional. I set out to hit 200 lbs and got to 195, so I'm happy. Trying to cut down to around the 8-10% BF area right now. Diet is good, but not as consistent as I want it to be.

Just came across this thread and thought what the hell.

Jan. 2007, 256 lbs, 42 inch waist
Aug 2007, 207 lbs, 36 inch waist

Completly changed my diet and started going to the gym 4 times a week - 60 to 90 min a time.

Now feel better than I have for 25 years and am a lot stronger.

Has made a huge difference in my endurance and strength.

I admit there are days that the last thing I want to do is drag my ass to the gym but drag it there I do.

Eating healthy has become the norm now, don't hardly miss the junk food at all.

Anyways, just my 2 cents worth.

Awesome work man!

Holding at 179 work weight with clothes on and after breakfast. This is after a week at Disney with the kids and the wife. Seafood buffet all you can eat.
40 years old 32“ waist 5’ 9” with a 42-44 inch chest. I would still like to get down to 173 and see how I feel. Hard with work, kids baseball, Brother –in- Law in ICU. But I will keep at it.
Wife and kids going down the shore for a week so I can really work on dropping the gut next week. Wife away, BEEEEEER.

Weighing yourself on a scale is a TERRIBLE measure to go by. Weight means nothing. It is all in how your clothes fit, how much energy you have, and how you feel you look with a shirt off. Have someone snap some pics of you in your board shorts, and answer if you like how you look or not. If you don't, then lose weight. If you do, keep working on the same program.
Diet is the most important aspect. Eliminate sweets and eat healthy. Watch the calories.
Then check out www.crossfit.com
For those of you who have seen "300", this is the program their workout was based on. It worked for those guys, it works for me, and it is never boring.

Before Crossfitting, I was 6', 190, 34 inch waist, 44 inch chest (doing a lot of benching), and 17-18% bodyfat.
Now, five months later:
I am 6', 195, 34 inch waist, 42 inch chest. Last bodyfat measurement was 12% about 6 months ago.

I could barely do 8 pullups, and now I crank out 15. I am also doing them weighted, with 35lbs in a backpack for reps.
I can run 1.5 miles in 11 minutes.
I do 50 pullups, 100 pushups,150 situps, and 250 squats (air squats) in less than 17 minutes.

If you notice, I went up in weight. Muscle weighs more than fat- bodyfat % is a far better gauge of progress.

I was just in Disney myself this past week after doing a Disney Cruise. Where did you stay? We stayed at the Boardwalk.

Alright I'm jumpin in on this too. 188 right now and need to be 178.

I HATE working out and I don't like running unless someone is chasing me. Even then they had better have a gun.

I just have to stop eating late and stop grillin so much.

I guess if I have to do something then jogging is where it is for me.

I'm gonna start tonight.

Holding steady at 176 (6'2") for months now. Managed to avoid any sympathy weight gain so far. Dunno what will happen after baby get here. I am happy at this weight, but I wouldn't mind trying that Crossfit program mentioned above..

The great thing about Crossfit, is you can go to their site, follow the workouts of the day they post on the main page, and see all the exercises in WMV format for form. It's like a personal trainer being right there.

Honestly, everybody needs to stop caring about how much they weigh, and rather what their body fat percentage is. That is what determines how healthy you are, not your weight. You might weigh 180lbs, but if you're 22% bodyfat, then you still have a problem. Focus on reducing bodyfat, not your weight. The scale is one of the most detrimental things when it comes to fitness, as too much emphasis is put on the almighty pound.

So who's gonna start checking in on what their bodyfat is? Remember, your weight can fluctuate 5lbs a day - taking a big poop will do that. Taking a poop will not affect your bodyfat. Sorry for the comparison, but it drives home the point.

Just cardio alone won't take care of bodyfat, not to mention that only aerobic cardio (60-70 % of maximum heart rate) burns fat, anything above that can actually burn muscle. You have to build more lean muscle to help burn off that extra fat. Point in case: 1 lb of muscle burns an additional 50 calories a day at rest. For example, if you can pack on an additional 6 lbs of muscle x 50 cal = 300 cal a day burned at rest. That's 9,000 calories a month extra burned sitting on your ass.

yeah, ive read about that standing caloric stuff before... cardio does so much more than burn fat though.. builds endurance, strengthens lungs, etc. i try to do as much cardio as my fat ass will let me. ive done 48mins on the treadmill every day this week.. up until tonights ihop fatfest. what can i say? we had a sudden pancake craving!

i can honestly say this is the 1st time in my life ive had dinner at ihop. i suck at this!

One thing that has coincided with me losing 30 lbs is getting on a budget $$-wise. We only have so much $$ for the 'dining out' envelope, so we eat out less. We eat out less, and spend less, it's a double-benefit.

Remember the cleaner you eat, the better your results will turn out.

Carbohydrate sources should come from oats, brown rice, and sweet potatoes as well as fruits and vegetables. Protein sources should be lean(fish, chicken, sirloin, etc..), and consume good dairy for bone health(high probiotic yogurt, cottage cheese). Sparingly using olive and flax oil on salads is also great for getting your essential fatty acids in per day for lowering cholesterol and overall health.

I would avoid all bread products as they are extremely processed even if you buy the whole wheat or whole grain brands. Anything that has these ingredients: High fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, partially hydrogenated vegetable/kernal/palm oil(all are trans fats), and fractionated palm kernal oil(still trans fat but to a lesser extent) are extremely processed for long shelf life and will take a toll on your body if consumed in excess.

I know we can't all eat clean all the time, but eating clean 5-6 days a week(at least 80-90%) ensures you are dedicated to your health and can still have two or three ice creams on that sunday.

I keep a running log in my gmail of my weight, and just made a graph of it in Excel to see my progress.

This is since 11/27 last year. Down 20 lbs, another 10 to go and I refocused myself this week I think like I was in February.
