is this a good ski for my little brother?

Hey all,

I am thinking about buying this ski for my 17 yr old brother as a graduation gift.
He has been riding my old 550 and he enjoys it, (but the 550 is old and starting to get boring compared to my new SJ SN)

I was going to buy a new electrical box and throw it in the ski.

what would a comparable running ski be worth?

Thanks in advance all

(And below is the written description from the seller)

Details.

the stator might be the spark problem, they are EXPENSIVE $200+ often used.
and over $300new

price wise it should be worth less than a squarenose, especially not running.

few hundred bucks maybe. I wouldnt pay more than that.

maybe $500, but that seems high for a ski that doesn't run..

it does have a bunch of goodies on it though. i would probably be willing to go 7-800 maybe even 900 on it but that is just me. you must be a cool bro. running condition it is probably worth 1200 to 1500 i am guessing

w/o it running you know nothing about the internals (pistons, crank, wrist bearings), all that could be bad. You would have to break it down to know the REAL value. IMO

true....i was assuming that electrical was only problem with it.

you should also take a compression tester and test cyl compression....look for even compression. this might help determine condition of engine internals.

it will surely help give you an idea...

he's right.....I bought a blaster a couple of years back...test rode it and everything, and it ripped! took it over to slutty's on my way home, fired it off and he says "somethign doesnt sound right"

:frown:

I'd say 5-600 as it sits....

yeah.... perfect example

If you get it, I have a few stators here and probably a whole e-box. I would guess it is either the stator or coil, but it should not be anything major. Run a compression test and see what you get. Should probaby be 170 or so with a head, but just check and see if both cylinders are equal. The ski looks to be in great shape, it would bring $1500 minimum on ebay. See what the guy has in mind for a ballpark price and go from there. Your brother would love it in comparison to a 550! I am probably building a SN SJ for my bro this summer! Good luck -Kurt

Creative RE Purchasing
I purchased a 1994 750sx with the same pipe and less of the other goodies. It had an intermittent spark problem. Bought it for $800. Turned around and parted it out for like $1600. That pipe alone will sell from $300-400.

The gentleman wont take any less than 900 for it. Wy too much for a non running ski, for that I'll find a stockish SJ.

thanks for all your help though. wish me luck in finding something for him.
