looking for input on fx1

i just got an fx1 bone stock except for an intake grate. Just got off an sj. got a lot of questions though. the only ride plate that i have found for it is a pro tec and it doesnt look all that different from the stock ride plate. i am putting in footholds and the optional enclosures along with a good amount of billet goodies, and the always useful auto bilge. i am also thinking of doing some minor repairs to the bottom of the hull and having the ski repainted. motor will stay stock for now.

Two main questions, if anyone has the pro tec ride plate, i would like a little input on the differences in the handling of the ski from stock, and what other little goodies would you put on the ski that experienced fx1 riders are aware of?

any input on the fx1 is appreciated.

thanks

You got a great ski...I rode one for a long time and may have another before too long! Blowsion still makes lots of great products for the FX1, and they are about the only guys out there still making parts for that ski.

Get a set of tubbies on there before you paint it. The FX really likes to slide through corners..tubbies will fix that fo sho!

Mine spent most of its life ugly as hell...but you got a great ski!

Ross got that one right, #1 Tubbies. The Blowsion lowered bracket is probably one of the billet goodies you are talking about? That is definately a must do. I would also recomend shortening the handle pole 2-3 inches.
As for a ride plate, Jet Dynamics makes one as well. I ran that one for a while and liked it. I "D" cut that for surf and still like it now. The FX1 is really a "nose light" ski, any extension on the ride plate will help, in addition to shortening the pole.
If your ski is Bone stock you will want to change the prop. It will really smooth it out.

Otherwise footholds and bilge are a great start.
Keep us posted! and good choice on a ski.

I haven't tried the pro-tec plate (I'm using jet dynamics). A scoop grate and plate kill some speed, but really suck it down to the water better, and help it turn a little.

Ripping off all the turf and padding helps a lot with room in the tray; I'd watch out for footholds that take up too much room in the tray; there isn't much to spare.

Hood straps aren't a bad idea; the front hood latching system is pretty weak.

I'm looking forward to trying tubbies / shortened pole myself; just need to get some motivation :)

I did get the lowering bracket. Who makes the tubbies that you would recommend for the fx1, and what pitch and brand do you recommend on the prop. Ive seen a lot of people put a solas prop and i believe it is a 19/24 pitch.

congrats on that sj pump by the way. I check on the ride plate at blowsion and was unable to find one. I just looked at the tubbies though

Nice. Ill be ordering that next week. Just invested in a rotozip for the footholds. Thank you for the link it looks exactly like the ride plate made by jet dynamics i had on my sj and i loved it.

someone mentioned the front hood latch. i replaced the wifes last year and added one to the mine this winter. mike at northwet powersports (wetracer) price is around $50. well worth the cash.

I like that front bracket! I was planning on getting one when my front latch breaks. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I have not had a problem with the latch since I started running hood straps. I think it takes the stress off the bracket.
