I am going to college, but i really really agree with what pete said. Going to college isnt ********! its your drive and determination that will get you places! Some of the laziest people i have ever seen are in school with me, i cant imagine what they will be doing the rest of their lives!

Well living in georgia, the lotto pays for school if you have over a 3.0 GPA. I have HOPE scholarship, I dont pay a dime.

There are many jobs you CANNOT get without a college education, many require a graduate degree. College is for people that want to continue their education and get better jobs without a low salery cap.

Even a 2 year technical diploma is better than nothing.

I have a part time Job that pays 18 bucks an hour, for people that dont have a college education thats alot of money. I think it's a joke, when I graduate with my degree, I will be making 40 bucks an hour

I have a 2 year and agree with some of it... LOL

that's the kind of statement that makes designers plot the deaths of engineers.

Im with you.... heheheh :cool2:

I dont understand going to college. All my friends in school are poor and living like there 16, in there mid 20's, with $50-80k in student debt!!! Thats not the way I would want to start out. Just doesnt make sense to me.

That's not the way you're supposed to start out. Go to an expensive college and get a useless degree ie anthropology or sociology, and you're hopelessly in debt making below par wages. Go to a decent school and get a useful degree and you'll be banking after a couple of years. It's all about strategy. There's not a single career path that fits all people.

You are right, I just know alot of friends who have a large amount of student loan debt (bad degree paths) that are making $14 an hour now...lol

I do them all with a little more emphasis on single and multi family. I just finished designing my first superelevated roadway.

the california lotto was designed to pay for school stuff, but when it comes down to it, it doesnt give out nearly as much as what is put in.

im going to a jc to do general ed and then going to a state school for all my major classes. you can go to college without breaking the bank, you just have to know what your route is. unless you own your own company, you are way more restricted in job opportunities, and where your salary top out.

I've worked on all of the above - but the firm I'm at now handles mainly utility district work. Meaning creation of new subdivisions and maintenance and upkeep of exitsiting infrastructure. So in addtion to subdivisions - I do new waterplants, waterplant upgrades, sewer rehabs and additional projects. Our firm also does wastewater projects, municipal and highway department work as well. I've worked on muni and DOT projects - ya'll can have that shiat.

aand how much is that signiture worth?
I've been at this for 6 years (since I graduated). In that time, I've doubled my annual salary. I just got a 12% raise - and If I left the firm I'm at now, I would expect a 15-20% increase in salary...but I'm happy where I'm at. I don't wear a suit except for occasional meetings with new clients. I come and go as I please (I don't get griped at for coming in 15 minutes late) - and we work a 4.5 day work week. how much is the signature itself worth? Hard to say - but a big part of the 12% raise was because I became a PE. The people in my office that are not PEs (but engineers) got about a 3-4% raise. Plus I get a heckova bigger bonus than them

Our CADD staff is very well taken care of...except for when the VP catches them goofing off (or socializing too much). They are paid well and can pretty much work as much overtime as they can handle.

Yeah, pretty much, lol. I just like ********ing around about it. It's so ignorant, its insane so yeah

You are the people her parents warned her about!

As long as you realize that they are the ignorant ones, it's all good.

Pete is completely right on this issue. All the "burnouts" that I knew that went to vocational school for half the day in high school all had good jobs right out of school. There are jobs you need college for, but many many many that you don't. My brother-in-law graduated with a degree in psychology and now makes his living as a perl programmer.... making buttloads of money from home in his ratty t-shirts and shorts. He never went to school to be a perl programmer. My mom is VP of a large advertising firm.... she did one semester in college.

"Decide what you want to study for the next four years." is a really dumb thing to say to an 18 yr old.

Sorry to partake in the thread-jack Jeepmark :hijacked:
