I bet it would hold up ok for a season in the surf..........you are getting some surf height in flatwater so there is something to say about that. Now tanking it into a sand bar is a different story.

That is a testimate to how durable you can make a boat. Way overkill for the average rider but it has taken some beatings for sure.

Couldnt agree more. I would predict that a 65lb prepeg hull would hold up fine in the surf, as long as it wasnt being sand bar darted. I am just starting to learn about composites, but I know for sure that 99% of the lightweight battle is in the materials used, and experience in general. Of course you wont build a surf ready hull under 85lbs that is built of glass, or chopper gun. Once you get into high end materials is were you can realy shed the weight.

Bobby at Trinity popped his first shell for his SXR hood. It weighs 3.5lbs. He is confident It will handle what ever you can give it... After the liner....The complete hood will be about 6lbs. :purr: Have you ever compared the size of a SXR hood to a SJ :bigeyes:

The SXr is huge :bigeyes: Everywhere. At least it feels that way. You don't even have to reinforce an SXR. Those are chopper gun hulls and thick. They will handle almost anything you can throw at them.

No doubt a core material is the key to building strong and light parts.........I would say the next part of the package is the control over resin/cloth ratio (whether it be prepreg cloth or an infusion process) and third is lay-up schedule (adding in critical areas and skimping in the non-critical areas).

Im sure I could take Toms hull into the surf and ride it without problem......I ride hard, but not like pancake or slutty..........

not to mention, not everyone that surf rides pulls consistent 15 ft. aerials.......Terrible Ted is another local daytona rider and can shred and surf waves like no other.....yet his pump never leaves the water


going big is a relative concept
