My buddies 24/7 hood weighs in at 13-14 lbs. Most hoods weigh between 11-13lbs from what I understand.
Does anyone know what the prepreg ATP hood weighs?
The Hood on my ski weighs in at 8lbs which is fine for me being a gereatric.
However, the hoods we make for customers are mostly around 9.5lbs these we consider strong enough for any form of Freestyle. At 8lbs to be honest you are pushing your luck. In our experience it's not how extreme the tricks are it's how bad you get them wrong when learning that does the damage. The hoods I'm speaking of are all Carbon Prepreg I wouldn't even consider selling a Fibreglass hood with Polyester resin at anything approaching these weights, it will break.
Very nice! what does your hood sell for ? (in US $!)
You really don't want to know:bigeyes:
They retail over here at £1500 that's for the full kit inc bracket and hardware. We don't make any excuses for the price as we cannot do anything about the volatile carbon prices and the man hours alone are high. Each part of the Hood kit is bagged several times during the lamination and oven cured under pressure for 10 hours. It takes us a full two weeks to make one Hood kit.
This is how bad it is, when we call one of our Pre-preg suppliers they cannot tell us the price until after their weekly price meeting! Their biggest customer of course is the Aerospace industry.
Add that to the exchange rate now approaching $2 to 1GBP makes our parts very expensive to all US customers, the only slight relief is US customers don't pay our VAT (Value Added Tax). So in short I seriously doubt anyone in the US would want to pay that amount for a Hood kit no matter how good it was.
Steve-Seen pics of your work, looks good, keep it up.
