Other Thinking about getting an impact style vest

After reading about hollywood hood's accident and the fact that his impact vest probably saved his life im thinking about buying one for myself. I'm just hung up on the fact that they dont typically float you if you get knocked unconcious. I realize they are inherently less buoyant but are there any impact vests out there that will at least keep your body at the surface so someone can grab you?

A uscg life jacket will provide more protection than an impact vest/comp vest and also keep your head above water. Type 1 vest is the only type that will roll you over on your back if you get knocked out. All impact vests make you work to stay above water. If they kept your head up effortlessly they'd be uscg approved. The only downside to USCG approved vests are the bulkiness. Some vests are definitely better designed than others. I know I forget I have mine on.

Just the other day I rode very hard behind a boat for miles and was so exhausted when I finally fell I had no energy left to swim the 10 feet back to my ski. All I could do is literally just float and catch my breath. NO WAY will you ever catch me without a real life jacket on.

Impact vests look cool and no doubt they are easier to ride in but I say suck it up, stay legal, and stay alive without fighting for your life when the time comes.

Guy I bought my ski from had a really thin solid plate shirt thing he wore under his vest. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called but you should look for that.

Damn it that is what I want. Searched a while, found nothing.

I crashed into my own ski wearing a 100mph vest, 3 broken ribs, separated shoulder, crushed elbow and arm broke in 3 places. The vest really only involved the ribs but it was 2 inches thick in front and my chest injuries could have only been worse.
