Super Jet Waveventure Donor?

I am thinking about buying a 97 Wave Venture 760 as a donor ski for my RN Project. The 760 is the 64x correct? I want to do the 61x top end. I just wanted to make sure that it was worth buying as a donor. Is it the right 144mm pump. Will the CDI be good for a modded setup? Any drawbacks?

Thank You

From searching on here and google what i have found is the 64x bottom end is the same as the 62t bottom end, the only difference is the dual pulse lines and the case bore is for a 760 as opposed to a 701.
Is this correct?

Are the dual pulse lines good for a modified 64x with 61x top end and dual carb set up?
I want the timing of the 61x and maybe a larger bore if i have the budget.

You'll be fine, but I think your going to need a driveshaft. 61x cylinders will work, but porting the cylinders it comes with is probably a cheaper route. You will probably need other things such as midshaft and cables if you don't have these already. Is it 62t cylinders on the 760? I'm pretty sure it is.

I have an empty 97 RN
i do need the driveshaft cables everything
i just want to make sure the bottom end out of the wave venture is a good bottom end to run and make power with. i will figure out the exact setup as i go.
any info on the pump from the wave venture?
good for an SJ?

I went down this road not too long ago. 64x cases are just like stated above and will work fine, I like the 760 engine personally, and having the cylinders ported will make a big improvement. Id advise not running the 64x electronics, sell them and get 62t or 61x (theres a timing issue that doesnt work well with freestyle riding) and I belive the flywheel is heavier. The midshaft housing will work, but not the shaft itself, I believe jet maniac can cut down the drive shaft to work in a SJ, the stator housing will work, but the wear ring doesnt have threaded bolt holes on the waveventure and the SJ does. You will need a A/M head, the oem head has different size domes to reduce compression in one of the cylinders (this has to do with the timing issue on the WV)

Yup, all good info so far. Everybody who ever plans to build a ski from scratch needs to part out at least one couch and you picked the perfect one to do it to. Not everything will work but you can sell those items that don't and round up ones that will. Either way, you will be ahead of the game on a lot of the big and little stuff.

There is so much little hardware that one never even thinks about and you will get more than enough of it from one couch for a fraction of the cost. I have several coffee cans of OEM Yamaha hardware that has saved my ass in a couple builds now. I don't fight a bad bolt anymore either, I simply toss it and grab another clean one.

As mentioned above, Jetmaniac can cut down that driveshaft to Superjet length. He will also take the 760 coil in exchange for one that will work and likely buy the CDI too. He is good to barter with so you may be able to do some swapping of parts with him alone and save yourself on shipping to many different people. He is truly a one stop shop, especially if you are doing a build from a bare hull.

P.S.
- The exhaust hose can be cut down and you can usually get at least 3 b-pipe elbows out of it.
- Blaster conversion guys are looking for that style of waterbox.
- Motor mounts are 1/8" taller but can be ground to fit a Superjet and will outlast everything else on the market.
- Those little white clips that rivet to the hull to hold wires and hoses are priceless.
- Tank mounts, battery tray, straps are all useable
- The fuel hose is the best on the market, even used and 15+ years old it's still better than 90% of aftermarket crap.
- Same goes for the water lines. You will not find better quality hose and pay attention to the Y adapters as they work great for dual cooling setups.
- The rubber mat under the waverunner gas tank is perfect to put under the superjet gas tank and waterbox
- The start stop harness has too many wires but all of them simply unplug inside the ebox, leaving just what you need, and at a length where you will now be able to use the shorter and more readily available couch start/stops from this point forward.
- Those little stainless quick connects on the end of the steering/trim cables are worth $40 each from Yamaha so definitely save them.

Awsome, thank you all so much for the info.If i decide to keep the 760 whats the best place for a good porting to make the best power with it?And i wll definently swap the electrical out.

Lots of great info and advice for you here already. Great forum huh?

engine:

cases, bedplates, crank- great for freestyle build

cylinder- will work as is, but needs mods to work for freestyle. Sell cyl. and swap to 61x easier route

Dual 44 carb/intake- many use and happy with this setup

electrics- use starter, bendix but ebox, fly and stator should be replaced. You can use them as is and upgrade later but timing, heavy flywheel, etc. not good for performance build. Ebox front, coil, volt reg., and solenoid can be reused, but easier to sell 64x setup complete and buy 61x or 62t ebox, stator, fly.

midshaft:

housing is the same as RN but lacks second rear grease seal, rebuild with SJ kit or replace rear seals. Press out shaft and replace with SJ midshaft. You can reusesame eng/midshaft couplers.

pump:

driveshaft is too long but can be modded to SJ length. Pump stator and reduction nozzle are good to use. Wear ring is the same but you will need to helicoil the front 4 holes to add threads for the long pump bolts. You can shorten them or replace with sj length ones. You will need the pump to shoe seal. Steering nozzle will need to be replaced. Prop too tall in pitch- replace.

Steering and throttle cables wont work-sell
motor mounts and hardware- use in sj
start/stop switch- can be modded to work, but not worth doing if you will be in saltwater-replace harness if so.
