SXR SXR Jetting, R&D Timing Advance and K&N flame

Is jetting required for k&n flame arrestors, and r&d timing advance; 08' sxr, everything else is stock.

if so, what jetting size.

Should I run higher octane with this setup?

Should I run 50 to 1?

thanks.

I'd go higher octane...91 at least. I think all you need to change is the pop-off springs. look at Group K's website, I think it talks about it there.

Looks like the r&d timing advance kit said to unscrew the high screw 1 turn, and low 1 1/4 turn. Got it all together and seems to run ok in shop, will water test next weekend...
thanks..

you can't tell anything on the trailer in the shop. you will see what happens under a load. take some new plugs and good fuel, 91octane or better as said above. 2.0 n/s with your stock 80gram springs will help to.

Yeah, the R&D instructions have me thinking now too, they said 1turn high, and 1 1/4 turn low; but was that from where they were set before I installed the Timing advance, or from an all the way in-position? hmm...

from the closed position. are you running duel carbs? i'd start with the low speed 1.0 turned from closed and the high speed 1/2 from closed. and adjust from there

Thats what I thought too... Just installed r and d timing advance kit on my stock 03 sxr, set low speed to 1 1/4 and high speed to 1. Took it to the lake yesterday, idled ok but give it any gas and it would die. Got it started again and then turn the chock on half way then and it ran great, so richened up the low and high speed until it ran good, Ended up at 2 3/4 out on low speed and 2 1/8 out on high speed. Runs like a champ now, timing advance made a surprisingly big difference in preformance across the board.

I believe anything over 2 turns on the low speed or high and you are not adjusting anymore. you may need bigger jets

Took it out again yesterday and its still lean on the low speed adjustments, guess im gonna have to rejet, never had the carbs apart and dont know much about them,.. Its stock carbs, what size jets will it have? What size should i go to? The ski runs great past 1/4 throttle, also idles fine, just hesitates in low end range. I can turn the choke on 1/4 and it fixes it, however losses some power at higher rpms.

With the a/m flame arrestors you HAVE to rejet, the stock jets are too small. And coupled with the timing advance you are begging for detonation and/or hot spots. Go 77.5 on the lows, 147.5 on the highs and install 2.0 n/s'
