There needs to be a format for judging, not based off "I think that guy did those flippy things real good, Huh, no, I did not see that, was too busy talking"

I am gonna try to come up with a score sheet and take it to the race in 2 weeks and see what Mike Thinks........

EXACTLY! Judging needs to be judged with some level of consistency. Repetitive runs need to be penalized. People need to be judged on more than one factor. BK, good luck with that score sheet I'd love to see it when its done.

I think that you should be able to run a aftermarket hull in amateure class, but by doing so you start out with - 10 points (or let them start at +20 sec on the clock). That way you have to play catch up with the other riders and even the playing feild a little. IF the judging were consitent and more sturctured that would work well. IMO that would help the sport grow b/c guys that have the means to build their boat up can still compete in a class where they would be more competative. Telling a guy that has a aftermarket hull to go away is just bad for the sport. Those damm hulls are expensive and if they fork over that kind of cash to the sponsors why not let them at least participate.

Gr8 thread!!!!!!!!!!! would be good if there was a weight limit(lets say same as stock(then go crazy with any design or keep it stock) but allow hoods,nosepieces,hpoles....... and 800cc limit of course. It seems the current issue is the amp hulls..................................02.

so what is the main beef here? that pro guys are running in am or that am guys have sick boats giving them an advantage?

Lack of consistancy, organization, everything............... I would be surprised if you polled all the competitors (AM) and they could tell you what the rules were.......

also, scoring is a big issue, many times you get judges who do not know what is going on........... there is not format for scoring...........

Hulls are the next step to becoming serious and amature shouldnt be a joke or easy to get into, I mean its world finals after all not just a budget event ???????????????????????????????????????????????????

I say make the pro freestyle riders judges. :Banane01: Stoyer would help for sure. Might as well, they are there and know what is done well and what just was flopped.

Scoring: Let the freestylers judge there competitors on a sheet in rank but not themselves, this way one can rule out cheating or an judging ignorence?

that is one reason nothing is said...........

I dont agree on the penalization for a AM Hull................

as far as weight limits, there is no easy way for the promoters to weigh a ski, so that is really not feasible........ Good Idea but logistically unsound.

Also, so many point for each move is a must, that way the riders know what thay have to do to beat the guy that went before them.............ok, he just pulled a clean sprunk monkey, so I have to 1 up him and do a variation of the sprung monkey or a 50/50

thanks BK, trying to play catchup. how can you have no criteria to judge by? Holy Craps

What is the guy who modifies his own boat? longer, shorter, etc. If I can make a hull handbuilt of some exotic materials but I didn't buy it from someone is that aftermarket? where is that line drawn?

What is the advantage of a topdeck change?

I think we need to allow aftermarket hulls, and 850cc.
The hull doesn't make a big enough difference.
If you work on a stock hull they will be with in a few lbs.
Thats just working hard not spending $$
With 850 cc ....... it allows for strokers.
Both of these options feed the aftermarket suppliers in the sport, which will justify them to sponsor riders.
We have to feed the sport to make it grow........

If Yamaha or Kawasaki etc etc did not build it, then it is aftermarket. plus ski must meet certain criteria as far as size goes.................

I talked to this clown this morning who I hear did pretty well at Nationals and WF on a Stock Hull with under 800cc's.................... But, I understand the part about supporting the aftermarket companies.........

This is how we did it at nationals 2 years ago, but you have to have enough Pro's and AM to do that, there were only 3 Pro's at Nationals this time.

How was the judging consistency from that trial?

I think am hulls or at least top deck with a weight rule and keep the 800cc rule. What advantage do you really have with an am hull that weighs the same as a stock hull. Also whats the difference if you put an am hood on or take and put an am top deck on?

I just wanted to point out that you're all spelling amateur wrong :spam: :tomato:

Is there any benefit in mimicking the Mod class rules? Consistency? Reusability, if any?

You forgot to mention in #2 option about aftermarket cylinders. If you want peeps to get into the sport it needs to be easy like stock class racing. Where with a few handling mods your legal and have the means to compete.

#2 800cc limit, OEM hull(top and bottom deck), no aftermarket cylinders.

Thats what i think is the answer to getting more new people into the sport and even the playing field.
