Well, I hate to discriminate here but square owners usually don't have much money to spend on their ski's and the round owners are just ex-square owners that hit the lottery and lift their noses to the squares........Yeah, that's it!!!!!!!:highhorse: :highhorse:

okay...... nevermind, everybody.... STEVE thinks its a bad idea because all SN owners are beanie-wearing cheapasses

I forgot!
with a low profile hood, arnt you going to want to go with a smaller roundie pole

thats what i got so yeah! i can just see it now, huge air vents into the tray like the RN lids have, CF handholds, lightweight, smooth, new, strong. I hate my hood, its modded but i started to beef it up some more and sand it down for some paint and it is already getting heavy:banghead:

I personally like the squares more than the rounds, but sometimes it is a matter of availablity. If hoods were available I think they would be more popular. This is a bold statement but I will never own a roundnose SJ

i agree. i see no reason to own a round. i like the square better. they just look slicker.

but how much lower could you really make the hood? i think if its lowered it would take away the lines from the front to the rear. unless the rear of the hood was lowered.

hacking up stock hoods is a lot of work and still leaves you with a heavy hood!

this is for those, like freestyleriverrat and others, that actually prefer a square over a round.

theres lots of money being put into extreme-makeover squares lately.

people put more than that into a pipe whether its for a square or round.

Don't get me wrong, I too prefer the square over the round but obviously for different reasons.

I have a money pit in the form of a GPR already. What I love about my square is that it gives so much for so little money.
I have no problems with hacking it up, drilling holes or anything that alters it in any way shape or form. I want my square to look good but I didn't feel the need to slash my wrists when the turf didn't come out perfect.

The square is a great platform to learn not only how to ride but how to work on hulls so for now I will stick with the hacked up stock hood.

I think if you built one for around $500 you could sell some. $650 is pushing it too much IMO.
Also there is no need to lower the square hood and make it like the FX-1, when its already lowered the same as a round with aftermarket lowered hood/nose piece/pole bracket.
I know I f'n dreaded doing my square hood mod, but i did it right with no BS and love it now, but your right, it's not any lighter than stock and if I had to do it again, I would buy the moody masher liner or a A/M replacement hood like your talking about.
But you gotta remember that i do fiberglass/gelcoat work for a living. So thats why I f'n hated doing it and the project dragged out WAY to long.

I think hood with a different nose piece would be a seller. the square has a funny taper to the front of it that could reworked a little better I think. But leave it square. no funky roundnose wannabe piece.

Lightweight, nice holds, good air intake. I think you'd get some to buy it. Leave it the same height, no need for it to have a pole stick obnoxiously above the hood. Only time I could see lowered would be to lower it to the lines of a X-Metal pole on it but majority wouldnt have that.

Just looking down at the active users viewing this. I think they are all square owners, looks like you've got a couple people's attention :scratchchin:

My modified stock hood is quite a bit lighter than stock.

I never weighed before and after, but to me it feels about the same. I used the home depot $5 florenscent(sp) light panel as the backing sheet with 2 layers of 1708 and then 1 layer each of 1708 on the sides. I re-inforced inside also where the hand hold buckets are(the whole inner lining of the hood). It maybe the same wieght as stock, but its a friggin' tank! :headbang:

I am with SUPERJET-113 $500 would be a price that alot of people would go for. Just make it sleek, lite and water tight.

what about $200? would that be better?

:haha:

the price is non-negotiable. a retail price of $500 wouldnt even justify this thread, let alone the time, materials and effort itd take to produce the parts (and making the plugs and molds).

so lets get out of dreamland and realize that the price would be $650 (or more, just because of your little outburst, mr Lurker)

:haha:

somthing to remember is that making a square hood and liner isnt much different than making a round hood and liner..... so i wouldnt assume a drastic price difference either.... no matter how much we would 'like' to pay.

Ok maybe my case is an exception. I have an xmetal pole on mine and I need to put about 6 inches of padding on the hood to make the pole sit flush with the top of the hood, hence the reason of me wanting a lowered hood. Whatever......

I'll just make my own lol. But it would be awesome for it to be light and strong.

But my main questions is this...

If I lowered my stock square hood, would there be enough room for airflow and engine clearance
