I am going to be in SanDiego and LA in early August for a week. I would love to come out and ride with the Oceanside crew again! I would pay to rent someones standup for a couple hours to slash some Pacific waves....My friend sold his SJ for a dirtbike.

I also would like to do some filming from the shore if possible...(I'll just take my camera in a waterproof backpack) along with my gopro.

Camera on the beach would not be a good idea. The Military will confiscate your gear not worth it.

yes,you can film from a couch. I tried to get permission for the company my brother works for (godfrey entertainment nitro circus, thrill idiots) to get on the beach to film and they made it very clear they do not want that.

.......... oceanside was one of them; why can't you have camera's on the beach?

The area where we ride in Oceanside in not actually Oceanside, it is in The Camp Penedleton Marine Base which is about 1 mile North of Oceanside harbor. The general rule is no filming on the marine base, I'm asumming for security reasons. The area where we ride is a desolate beach which is rarly used by the Military and it is patrolled even less, so its a big loophole that we have a great ocean riding spot. Even though technically its illegal to film (and ride there) its never enforced. If some one wanted to film us skiing from the beach anyway they would have no problem as theres nothing there (on the beach) so a camera could easily be put away before any life guard/patrols could even get close enough to see that you where filming.

bump for the Osidecrew. Aug 6th? 7th? Anyone got a ski they wanna bum to an Ohio Freerider? I'll even rent it from ya....just wanna rip a tank of fuel and slash some Pacific Ocean waves....bringin the gopro and my new HD vid cam.

You can film from the beach... just go north of the river... the trucks wont cross the river and I doubt they would send in a tank just to stop you filming haha.... I have filmed from the beach and not been hassled... just dont make a big scene out of it and stay near the water

Pssshhh...they know when you are exhaling your breath John...don't think they don't!!! They were all smiles and waves to me and my camera while on base though. Maybe if DJ cuts his hair, they will let he and his cameras on base too!

Hopefully you get some surf like this DJ (the very first Pacific Ocean Wave I saw, and it was @ PB)! I will do a surf dance for you, but I do not know if it will work long distance...might have to put me in your suitcase for that.

I had a great time the last time I was out there, except for major salt water electrical issues on my friends ski (had to keep all water out of hood) and my rookie surf friends running out of gas and almost sinking a bunch of skis. hee hee. Ridethelip did some excellent rescue work, among others. Can't wait to go back....

hey guys, so here is the deal about fillming. I may be new to riding the spot but I am not new to camp pendelton. I big tower just to the north of were we ride. that is were I work. I build the hovercrafts that you see flying in and out of there. Part of that beech belongs to the navy then it splits and become the usmcs as you come south. Untill you get down below the river there is no governed structure (just open Federal land). Federal being the key word there (If You Have A Record Do Not Beach Your ski On Base). Technically to be on it you need permision, but like you said, it is rairly patroled or enforced and to be honest most of the guys are pretty cool if you just explain yourself. If they do try to stop you and you run back out they can do one of 2 things, call amphib and ask them to go get you (where my best friend works) who will tell them they have better things to do. or call coast gaurd how will come get you and turn you over to the MPs (you dont want that) I know this because we recently had a couple guys trying to spy on our projects and take pictures.
The tanks drive that beach all the time. They wont stop for you, but if you see them coming, go back out in the water till they all pass or they complain then they will start patroling.
Pictures and videos are fine as long as they so not show any sort of training of person or machine, the inside of any federal facility or the working of anything (how thing work) which you cant see anyways. for the most part as a general rule, if you can see it from the public access areas, as in 500yds into the water, then it is fine to take a picture of. Or if you work for a company like mine that part of the job is taking close of pictures of that stuff, but unfortanitly no one else out there does.
also they are now curently building a facilitly just a hundred or so yards perfectly inland of the beach we ride at. I do not know if it is visible from the water but if it is. Do not photograph it and stand clear of the vehicals around it, go into the water if they come. they are civilian contractors and will invalve MPs
(this is all on top of California State laws which are still in affect on Federal land)
