Not my Gig.
That's a slightly unfair statement.....as this is the only US freeride comp this year. It's tough to get to comps, and get numbers under your belt, when the only comp of the year is mostly off limits.
Hell, in the last 3 years, how many surf comps have there even been in the US? Sure, some of the old hands have results and mag shots and foreign competition under their belts....but part of what is stifling this industry is the lack of new blood. There is little to no incentive to up and coming riders.
I'm not saying that your event is where they should have their chance to shine....just making a point.
"Hey ...Newspaper guy....."some dudes are riding at the beach this weekend....send a photographer"" Doesn't cut it.
A fledgling event such as this must rely to some extent upon names. Its Just a matter of fact.
I get your point....and I think you get mine.
While it is difficult to travel to events......Some do. The Foreign guys seem to be able to get here and some Americans have gone abroad......and they are not all vets......
It would be great if there were incentive for all of you......... but at this stage ....many must Create their own incentive....make their own goals....chase a personal glory.
It is an effort to build upon the sport we love..to recapture some of what we hope will be your incentive in the future....
Hopefully this contest will HELP lead to other similar events that all can participate in.
The Contest is only a part of the weekend.
If I may steal a line from Surfer magazine:
"We Know You're Ripping Before You Do!"
