Blaster problems

Dont know if some of you remember I put a post about the prob's I was having with my ski,

basically its a completley standard blaster 701, when I go out after about 5 mins or so it drops on to the front cyclinder and wont rev out above around 2500 rpm, if you are lucky sometimes you can feather the throttle and it wil clear and run flat out again, other times it makes no differance and its back to the beach.

Put it back on the trailer, give it a few minuites, fire it up and it will rev crisp as anything. like theres no problem, so put it back in the water go out and low and behold, after 5 mins of hacking around its back on to one cyclinder again, so its back to the beach, back on to the trailer, and home throwing my toys and dummie out as I go :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :17: :17: :17:

Ive run out of ideas as to what it could be and am really hoping that someone can point me in the right direction as the seas gona get really cold soon, so Ive only got a few months of good riding..

things done to it so far to try and cure the problem include.

Full rebuild inc; new pistons, new bearings, new rings, all new gaskets, new seals, new fuel filter etc
new CDI
new stator
new coil
new plugs x9millon
new HT leads
heat sensor dissconneted (made no differnace)
handle bar switch dissconnected, striped cleaned and rebuilt
carb stripped and rebuilt x 6
lots of swearing
blessing with holy water
the threat of being taken to deep water and sunk

All of the above had made on differance and the problem continues, so has anybody got any ideas as to what it could be, Im going round the bend and I really just want it to work..

cheers in advance

you say it drops to one cylinder, have you taken it to shore and looked for sparkwhen it's acting up? what color is the spark? white/blue or yellow/orange? have you done a pressure check to make sure it can hold 8 psi for 5 min?

He Who Dares....WINS!!!
Insulate your HT leads!

The WB tends to drop spark through HT's onto block! We run them through Silicone tube from Electrical box right through to plug cap!
try some di-electric compound in the caps and around where ht leads go into caps! might help to!

wow, cheers guys, I havnt done a pressure check on it yet, thats next on this list it I cant find something more obvious, I have got a coupler cover on,
I havnt been able to check the color of the spark when its acting up because by the time I get to the beach to get it on the trailer and check it, the things ok again. :banghead: ..

my HT leads are pretty well insulated but I'll give that a try as well, the leads are quite long so they could be dropping onto the block..

I have thought about water dripping down from the hood, (also the hood seal aint great) and leaking onto something which in turn is causing the problem. but its never soaking inside, its just a bit damp :frown: ...

Yup the coupler can sling water right at your carbs if there is no cover

damn right it can..just last weekend ewok was battling the same thing...

he was leaking water in at the midshaft bearing, the coupler was sliging water right up into the carb....this was WITH a coupler cover..

you check your o-rings/head gasket?

also, check the connection from the s/s switch to the wiring harness (make sure there is a good glob of vaseline/dielectric grease)....my ski would drop a cyl when I had those wires just laying in the bottom of the bilge...I ziptied them up top and problem went away!

Cheers dude..

the head gaskets fine, we just replaced it.. I thought it could of been those wires but there pretty well insulated.. theres self-amalgamating tape round them now..

Does throw water from the coupler cover cause its never that wet really (or would it not take much to cause it..

Cant think of anything else.... crack somewere in something ?????? exhaust ???

really stuck on this

I don't mean to insult your wrencing skills but is it as simple as water ingestion? if you have an open type flame arestor it would be easy for you ski to act up like that.

Like Shep said, havnt had chance to check it or get what I need, I lunched the motor on my car trying to break a record so funds are pretty tight till I can get that rebulit. I swore I wasnt gona spend more on the car so I could start tuning the ski, :banghead: :banghead:
