Skat Trak Magnum pump VS TBM pump insert

im still none the wiser after reading this, basicly if you dont know what your doing, dont do it! right? cause you could spend a lot of money and see no gains,
im running a 701 sj with all bolt ons avalable, pump wise i run a cut back 5mm 13/17 prop and i also boared the nozzle to 85mm, hooks up well but i was thinking bout going for a tbm,
mattsmith are you saying that the blowsion pump cone is better than the tbm?

the TBM is more easily adjustable than the blowsion because the TBM has three tail cones that can be changed by removing one bolt.

The blowsion one has many spacers that are a bit harder to asjust.

I think this threads been pretty clear. Blowsion=TBM, so basicly were at; Stock < blowsion or TBM < Magnum pump. When I Started this thread I was hoping for blowsion or TBM = Magnum pump, however this thread has informed me that this is not so. Best tip yet has been to fill the Mag pump with Synthetic oil or Trans Fluid, which leaves me with the question which is better? SO do we need to start another thread titled "Best mag pump filler, Synthetic oil or Trans Fluid" HA HA!

i use tbm on my sj and b1 i love them . my riding buddie has a similar set up to me he got a mag pump bolted it straight on .riding both back to back i noticed very little difference . his was just slapped in .my setup was a day on the lake with my builder pump in pump out repitch tweak etc so its well set up that may be why . i also know a couple of people who on one ski in the same day tested tbm ,blowsion, mag they said blowion very slightly better than tbm and mag better than both but not $$$$$$$$ that much better . all these skis were freestyle flatwater skis ported 760 bpipe type setups. hope that helps

i have been debating this a lot. the biggest thing is keeping the bearings saturated or they will not last long. oil/ATF, isn't going to stay in place like grease would so as soon as you go up on end one of the bearings may not be covered completely. i think a light weight oil and ATF would preform just about the same being that there both intended for a lot more abuse/heat....imo

i have decided im going to use some synthetic 5w30 royal purple or red line. the reason i chose oil is because ATF has a lot of property's that are unnecessary in this application. motor oil is simply a lubricant, bottom line.

AMSOIL Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is water resistant. It maintains extreme pressure protection even when contaminated with as much as 10% water. It promotes longer seal life, preventing excessive water leakage. AMSOIL Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube protects against rust and is compatible with aluminum, copper and brass alloys.

I run this stuff in my mag pump. It seems to last a little longer than grease...but nothings perfect...it ALL breaks/wears out in time.

tushay, although gear oil's high viscosity is not necessary in this simple application imo.. the only reason transmissions, transfer cases, differentials etc. use high viscosity oil is to ensure the oil transfers from one gear to another. in other words, a light oil would simply fall back to the bottom before getting to all the gears. i am choosing a low viscosity oil so that it flows easier in the bearings. 3 very valid points you made were; it promotes longer seal life, protects against rust, and is compatible with aluminum/copper/brass. these are all characteristics of any oil.

this is not an argument and please dont take it the wrong way. im sure any oil or grease will work. and as you stated it will all break with time. i ride 3-4 times a week for several hours so i will defiantly be putting my pump to the test. if i have good results i will be sure to post them in the future.

I hear ya...I had Mobil 1, 0w-30 in there before the gear oil.

The 10% water intrusion seemed like better protection than motor oil (it's probably just BS sales hype, and not tested in SALT WATER...which ruins everything). But time will tell...

ALRIGHT ALRIGHT already..... ill finish the argument.

I'll trade anyone my 12/17 Mag prop and TBM pump cone setup for your 144 Mag pump and 14/19 prop. we can call it even....

magnum pumps dont have sealed bearings? i havent ever had the chance to put my hands on one, just seen some pictures. so please dont blast me. my stock 650sx kaw pump has seals and sealed bearings. ATF has alot of cleaners/detergents. thought i would throw that in.

Yamaha pumps don't have sealed bearings. Mag pumps use whatever the stock bearings are (one exception is the set back mag pump)

Since regular low pitch impellers don't work with mags, is it possible that people are just not tuning their TBM correctly? Maybe adding a TBM to their 9/15 Hooker is not the right choice and makes little difference. Should a 14/22 be run instead for optimal performance? Maybe that's where the night and day occurs.
