Surfriding Am I cavitating?

I was towing a buddy in and I couldn't get over 10-15 mph. I would gun it and the ski just wouldn't get up and go. Does that sound like a cavitation issue? I am running a 13-15 concord solas setback. I have a stock pump, 760 62t big bore setup. Is that the right prop? Any ideas of what to check?

Check your pump seal to the shoe

Check for BS wrapped around the front of your driveshaft and/or messed up rubber boot on front of impeller

I was towing a SJ with a dude that weights over 200# pulled by a 587 Seadoo XP. I couldn't get above plane. I couldn't even get close to planing speed.
Pulling my wife, who weights quite a bit less, it's much easier to go faster.

Could just be the way towing is.

X2. How does it run when you're not towing someone? There is a big load difference.
You get the impeller spinning faster at lower water speeds and less water to the pump than normal.

Then it was just the towing, all should be fine. All that weight you were pulling was spinning the prop and not hooking up...

When i tow someone, i just take it slow and easy. No need to try and get up on plane unless maybe a stand up pulling a standup, but still no use to blow up or abuse your own Engine in the process!

That seem to be natural due to you want your pump/ prop to take off and move water fast as possiable with out slipping add towing 400lbs and you slip.. It does tell me your pump prop combo is close to where it takes off the fastest with out slipping. You do not have an issue.. Dam tanner i did not know you had a 760 in that ski...just my 2 cents

Yep, its been in there for years. The new crank just arrived at Fred's so heading to orlando to rebuild the whole thing this weekend. The front seal is leaking all kinds of fuel....big air leak!

Id still like to try a different prop, josh rode it and said he thought it was slipping. The hooker seems to be working well for a lot of people.

Towing does suck! But i've been towed in so many times i'm used to it now...hahaha

The person being towed should have their weight near the back of the ski, til you're up on plane. If he weighs a lot and kneels in front you may have a problem. We need to measure your impeller diameter. Beach riding and flushing does wear the imp out.

I rode your ski & the prop didn't feel right to me... I felt it spinning off the bottom which will kill that bottom end snap.... IMO its spinning the prop, but I don't know much so it may be fine.

2 wks ago he was towing me after I wasted my drive shaft (Skat shafts suck!)...

I thought it was a good tow speed Tanner, almost toooo fast at times. (Fred I was all the way in the back of the tray, Tanners rope is 10ft long so I was getting the major jet blast to the face)

you got a problem. towing should not cause cavitation. And shorten your towrope to about 3 feet, that will help too.

were you there 2 weeks ago when we drug the pontoon boat accross the sandbar with a sj? i was amazed. I didnt think it would work but the ski did it effortlessly

Sorry about the jet blast Josh. That is why I still have the visor on my helmet, deflects it perfectly when getting towed.

I've been dealing with cavitation issues lately. I had multiple causes. However, it was towing Frank & his x2 that made me rip out the pump to figure it out.

I've towed him b4 & could sail along no problem, nail it and snap the rope if I wanted. Last tow I had to move for a boat, gave it considerable throttle and had very little response. It just spun.

Anyway, if you are cavitating, towing will make the problem obvious.

So what was the problem?
