Other Yamahur and Kawasucky

So I figured we should start a thread with gripes that we have that are inherent to each manufacturer or particular ski. I'll start.

Js 550
piston port engine is underpowered and a biyatch to start
small pump
one piece driveshaft
ebox setup is dumb compared to Yamaha

The more I upgraded it the more finicky it became.

Hmmmm.

Kawi: I've only ridden a handful of skis but the 300sx I had leaked massive amounts of air on the cylinder base. Wouldn't hold 9 psi for longer than 10 seconds in case! Old kawis are hard to title. After the 300 incident every kawi 550 ski I found had no title or just a bill of sale. I wouldn't pull the trigger after the crap I went to to title the officially dead 300. Everyone I've met with a 440 or 550 constantly had issues.

Yamaha: Wish I got one sooner! Hard to find close to you. Drove 8 hours to pick up a 650 sn priced reasonably. I've had a few minor issues with my sn now but no coins to fix, just time.

I'm a fan boy for sure.

The X2 and everything about it. I hate that ski almost as much as I hate the guy who sold it to me, but not as much as I hate kawasaki for designing that hood.

I dislike that yamaha got a ski that sold well and sat on it so long. They could have improved the 701 motor, changing it out to a factory 800 with similar porting so we got the same power just more of it. They make a great boat, and they know that, so they didn't bother to improve on it. The SXR800 is based on the 750BP which is based on the 750SP, and the SXR is the only ski that has the 800 motor. Yamaha could have improved the motor, exhaust, etc so we could get a little more bang for our buck. At least they finally adjusted the hull. Yes, I agree that the SJ is great and didn't 'need' change, but no one can argue that it wouldn't have benefited from some.

I wish Yamaha had a place to "park" your caps/wires like Kawi does.

those are for grounding out the system when you crank it, so as not to overload the coil, not valet parking.
yamaha midshaft driveshaft design sucks.
kawi used the same undersized crank bearings on the 650/750/800 motors.
yami has 39 screws on the E-box. effective, but a pain. better if they had an 8mm head so they dont strip out.
superjet hulls are light weight, but flimsy. break when beat on.need reinforcement.

Handle poles. Should be aluminum from factory. Stock is like breaking up wood for kindling. Both mfg never got this.

Factory siphon bilges.

Biggest yami gripe - only 2 years of FX-1's. Dam shame right there.

Kawi 650 750 pump design with not interchangeable wear ring.

I have to agree with the Yamaha ebox. Should of used bolts. and when that ebox corrodes is self on to the ebox brackets they can be a bitch to get off, and they have to come off to get the screw underneith. The fact that there is no starter relay lugs external to the ebox. Also stock yamaha plug boots suck.

kawi has a better hood lip and hood seal design than the SJ and better electrical box. Being able to disconnect your stator was a breeze. And if you ever had your starter solenoid take a crap, you can jump it right there with a screw driver. Kawi had a :):):):)ty pole prop. Besides that, yamaha is much better everywhere else.

Second on that kawi wear ring thing. Wish Kawi pump was like Yamah pump but with Kawi midshaft.

On the idea of stock siphon bilge, wish they had factory tube for dual cooling. Older Kawi had the tube for the exhaust but it was cut flush. Would be nice if they all came with 3 line from the pump, 1 being capped for dual cooling upgrade.

IMO Yamaha really phucked up with the 08 hull changes. Instead of trying to compete with Kawi for a race hull, the 08+ hull should have come with a flip nose and been shortened in the rear by 4" with bolt on removeable hull extensions so that it can be stock length, 4" short or anywhere in between.

yami has no vent/plug on the flywheel cover and you cant tell if its rusty in there until your bendix freezes up.
cant take the sxr gas tank out without pulling the motor.
kawi sxr steering cables snap on a regular basis as soon as you install the UMI pole.
kawis crank with the lanyard out.

I hate how Yamahas have a :):):):) props stock, are ugly, ungodly slow out of the crate, have stupid tiny trays, are only 700cc stock, have 4 million electrical box screws, have the lamest fan boys known to man, take 4 grand and a bunch of work to have ENOUGH power to have fun, and are just general lame turds on the water....

Kawi's have them covered in every aspect....I don't know what you dummies see in the

says the fanboy. 800s were necessary when you have an actual BOAT for a PWC
