Surfriding Yamaha stator plate alignment

I thought the plate had a mark on it to know where to set it? So I guess my question is where Do I set the plate or how do I know where to set it? I can upload a picture soon

Thanks in advance

It appears you have an aftermarket stator and cases so it doesn't have the alignment mark tabs.

Here are couple pictures of a normal 61X & 62T stator with the timing advanced two or three degrees.

Ya, you can see that that the OP's stator will only go on one way. It has that boss sticking out of the cases and the indentation on the stator accept it. So there is no way to mess it up, and if you want to adjust timing just grind off top of that spot on the cases, but mark somewhere on the stator/cases so you still can reference where OEM timing is.
