This is an idea I have had in my head for a while and it recently became apparent that the original Sport Port Templates by Racelogic, are no longer available. In an effort to fill the gap left by this I have created a similar product. I did not want anything to do with plagiarizing Racelogic's product and started this from scratch, drafted in CAD. I measured existing cylinders to get my starting point, have researched, collected information and utilized various different ported cylinders I have owned and ridden and have created an exhaust port shape that I believe is well suited to a freeride/freestyle application, promotes reasonable ring life and is relatively simple for the at-home DIY enthusiast to replicate with simple tools.
My templates are printed on a magnetic sheet that slides into your cylinder and aligns with the top and bottom of the sleeve to easily locate and mark the areas to be modified. These include a revised exhaust port template that widens and reshapes the sides of the port and a bottom of sleeve template that modifies the intake side to allow for better flow into the transfers. The templates also include an instruction sheet spelling out the process from start to finish.
As it currently sits I have a template for Yamaha twin and triple cylinders, one for 77mm-80.5mm (6M6/650 cylinder) and one for 81mm-85mm (701 61x/62t and 760 64x cylinder).
In an effort to keep this a truly budget friendly option, I will be selling the templates for $25 shipped in the US and most of Canada.
I am not a master engine builder/two stroke guru, I am just a guy who has taken the time to do some research, ride and examine multiple ported engines, test some different porting and do some simple math.
Will this be the best, most high performance port job you can possibly get? No, you should pay an engine builder for that.
Will this offer a great performance boost with relatively little investment in time or money? Absolutely.
If you are not happy with the product upon arrival, put it back in the envelope, ship it back to me and I will refund your entire payment.

**UDPATE - I have since stopped selling these templates, instead they are free. Get the PDF here. **

Oops I forgot to specify 81-83.5 on my order but I assume you knew....no biggie either way. I wouldn't mind having a set of each actually.
No problem, that is what is on its way. I had a bit of free time this evening so I knocked out the intake side and took some pictures. I roughed it out with a cutoff wheel then used a combination of carbide bits, stones and sanding drums to finish it off.

I did a little work on one of my exhaust ports today, keep in mind I am not a pro, just the average guy. I used permanent marker instead of layout dye..because that is all I have, slid the template in and scribed around it. I had a tough time getting many good pictures of what I was doing so forgive me.
I roughed the sleeve opening out nearly to the line with course carbide bits and stones then went in with finer bits to start blending the transition back into the ports. It can be tough to see exactly how the transition is working out but if you run your finger in and out of the port you can feel it right away. There is also somewhat of a sharp kick in the floor of the port where it transitions from the steel sleeve to the aluminum casting, without actually lowering the port opening, I worked this out into a nice transition as well. I still have to polish the port and chamfer the edge but this cylinder will be getting a final bore before that.

Got any pictures of the tools you are using for this? Bits etc.

I've always wanted to play around with this but don't really know what tools to start out with.

Because this is only a hobby and I only do it once and a while, I spent as little as possible. I am using a Harbor Freight flex shaft grinder $40 and a handful of different carbide bits, mounted stones and sanding drums from McMaster (probably $50 worth) the carbide bits are used the most, specifically the flame shape. I did my last ported engine with one of the nicer Dremel tools without a flex shaft and it killed it by the time I was done so I went for this cheap HF tool, from what I have read, if you keep the flex shaft greased, it can last years, we will see. If it pukes I will probably pick up a used Foredom, the flex shaft, smallish handpiece and footswitch are way better for this kind of work than a regular dremel. If you are only going to do it once, or are not sure if you are only going to do it once, it doesn't make sense to pay as much for tools as it would have to have just had a professional port your engine so I like to keep it cheap for the first round and upgrade tools as necessary.

*UPDATE, this same tool has been running for 6 years now (in 2021) and has ported many cylinders and cases.

This template is the bomb! I rebuilt my old motor, ported it, and sold it to my buddy, that engine has never ran sooo good. I am very impressed with the power gain.

Thank you so much for the response, I have sent a LOT of these out but this is the first feedback from someone running one. I've got a cylinder ready to go here just can't decide if I want to use it or the ProTec cylinder.

I've ran just about 20 gallons, including break in on a cylinder that used these porting templates in a blaster. Very nice, everyone who rode it was impressed. Have a couple friends convinced to do their own now

You need a dremel with a long extension, or a flex shaft extenstion. That dremel looks too big.
