X-Ray of my quad

NOW SPORTING A BIONIC LEG
Well, It's now 4 months after my ski landed on my leg and tore everything in my quad. Lots of physical therapy and lots of vicodin and my progress has been really good.
Their is 1 complication. Its called Miositis Osificans and its extremely rare. Sometimes with really bad impacts to the quad your body freaks out and for an unknown reason deposits calcium within the muscle. So a large portion of my quad turned into bone. They can't cut it out because that would just be more trauma and cause it to come back even more. So you just have to teach the muscle how to work around it. Pretty freakin crazy huh?

Looks like your body is doing some reinforcing. Hope it all heals up and performs good for ya. :cheer:

Flash-fx has a meatball on his leg from sending his back leg through the front on a reentry. That was like 1/2 mile offshore and he rode back with pretty much his wetsuit holding his foot:bigeyes:

yeah, when I'm laying on my stomach it feels like theres a little alien about to pop out of my leg. The bone itself doesn't hurt any more because it stopped growing, but you can definitely see it and I can wrap my fingers around it. Here's a shot of the MRI of my quad when it happened. My leg was full of blood and the muscle was torn to shreds, and it was super painfull to the touch. So much scar tissue formed in my muscle my knee hardly bent at all. I would pop some vicodin and go to therapy and they would spend 2 hours just trying to bend it and break through the scar tissue. Without the PT I would be a cripple.

The white stuff is blood, guess which is the bad leg.

sh**.......that is nuts man  What happened, you were under the ski and it came down on top of your leg? Was it a long drop or just wrong place at the wrong time?

I have a bit of the same thing on my left femur after breaking it. Some bone fragments were left floating after the rod was inserted and the bone grew towards it to attach the floating bit to the femur. You'll adapt and be okay in time.

Thanks guys. My recovery has been amazing. I have full bend in my knee and about 75% of the strength back. It looks like I should be well enough to go back to work at waterworld by summer time. I just ran 2 miles on a tred mill and I see improvement with every session in PT. Without therapy I would be crippled, that stuff works wonders

That is the first time I have actually seen the MRI...that is incredible.
I'm glad that you are working so hard on the PT and are recovering so well.

Glad to hear your on the recovery path. Just think, If this hadn't happened you would not have reinforced your ski!! So much free time.
