It's fuel cell foam.
It goes in your tank and is supposed to prevent sloshing of gas.
If it's good fuel cell foam with that purpose, it won't break up.
If it's not, I should hope you're running a fuel filter.

I saw that stuff too and thought it was a little strange.

Horsepower and torque make up for sloshing.:woot:

yeah wouldent the sloshing help you rotate on teh rolls once you got inverted?

I thought it would be a good idea on the racecourse, especially if you are running around half a tank of fuel. I know my ski lurches and bucks a bit when making a series of tight turns around the buoys...

I don't think I like the idea of that many small blocks though.

hey guys..actually it is VERY common with racers. I used fuel cell foam in my tank for a long time when I was racing. As long as it's the real deal, it will not break up and clog lines, filters, etc. It would allow you to run less fuel since it would not slosh around as much causeing air in the tank, or after a long moto, for the ski to bog when it was leaned over heavily. Less gas=less weight. I got mine for a lot less at the local race car shop but it looks like he's selling the stuff Riva sells. I would use it if I was a freestyler. Every little bit helps.

We use it also in drag racing also, in fuel cells.. Almost every drag car at the drag strip will have foam in them..

i was gonna mention tha same thing......... but if i remember correctly fuel cells for carss have one large block of foam....... i wonder if all the small chunks of foam piled in there wouldnt slosh around also when soaked in fuel if u barrel roll

Been running a race fuel-cell with "foam" in my '67 Chevelle for 20 years. I had to change fuel-cell 3 times during that time because the foam will break down over time. I would say the safety point for foam replacement is 5 years. My 15 gallon fuel cell holds 12 gallons with foam in it.

The only way this foam will work as intended would be to completely fill tank all the way to the very top (compact a little too). If my SJ didn't already have a small 5 gallon tank, I would be all over this. Would be great for choppy waters.

Also know that you can buy this "fuel cell safety foam" at most big online car stores (Summit, Jegs, Ect..).

This is why I said to compact it a little. This foam is so porous that you can pour your gas jug on top of a thick piece and watch it just as quickly exit the bottom...but spread over a wide area.

Yes, large blocks would be ideal but you can't get the large foam blocks into the small hole.
