Anyone else rap the driveshaft with a hammer after bearing install? I felt it made a huge difference on aligning the bearings, also used synthetic oil instead of grease.

I NEVER hit anything but the front seals with a hammer.

Rdrttoy, while you use the heat / cool method, I still build them differently. As shown in my article, I install BOTH bearings on the shaft first, cool them, then put the whole assembly into the pump. IMO doing it this way gives no side stress on the bearings.

IF you install the front bearing first, you really have no way to heat the inner race so the shaft goes through without issues.

Also the article shows, we turn EVERY pump on the lathe, to open / true the bearing area, and reduce press.

Either way, I am NOT hear to argue, I just posted a link to the way "WE" do it here in my shop. If your way works for you, then fine.....

It can be seen also by going directly to the Water Craft Journal;

Why hasn't Solas fixed this yet?!

Quinc, I actually have been seeing pumps with a straight, and true bore. Please know, I have decided, to still take EVERY pump I build, or sell, and open it up, to reduce the bearing press. I do this just for insurance, and because I am also just too crazy picky.....

SO you know, If you purchase a pump from me, it has been done, and you can be confident.

I tried to PM you but for some reason I can't.
Do you offer these services at your shop? I did not see it on the website.

Thanks!

Benny
