Would you ever take $6500 through Paypal

I just got off the phone with paypal and they said i would be crazy to give my skis away and have absolutly no seller protection. The guy would get his money back instantly if he filed a dispute regardless if he returned my skis or not!!! We are supposed to complete this deal tomorrow morning and it really seems sketchy he didn't say one word about paying with paypal until this afternoon!!! Please give me some quck advise what to do and how i can resolve this...I only feel save taking cash obviously. i have only delt with cash and certified checks on ever other ski i have ever bought or sold

ya but paying paypal fees for me doesn't help when all the money disapears...you know what i mean...this is crazy that all this happened the night before i am supposed to hand over my skis.

I believe Yamasaki got ripped off that way...at least I think it was through paypal...but he found the ********er.

I would not do it...ask him why he wants to do that? Is he going to put it on a credit card? If so, I guess you could just tell him to get a cash advance on the card...

But if he is comming to get the skis, why not give cash or certified check?

If the buyer is looking to use a credit card, there are better and cheaper ways to do so. Cash advance for one, or better yet: a balance transfer made to his bank account. It may take a few days, but it's better for both of you.

yea...unless the guy is just stressed about you selling the skis to someone else cause he thinks he is getting the deal of the century, and is trying to be sure you don't sell the skis out from under him...I can't think of a good reason he would want you to take paypal.

I would use escrow from ebay. It cost a little more, but make him pay for it. Go to ebay and search escrow, it will tell you all you need to know. It's a safe way to transfer big money for you and him. Also it would be hard to withdraw all that money from paypal , unless you have a paypal visa.

he might be wanting to use paypal so he can use a creditcard, call your bank and see if you can use the cc there and put the funds directly into your acct.

mike, dont do it. he obviously wants to pay through paypal for the protection that it offers him. its not even that hes trying to scam you. but if, lets say, the crank takes a chit after 3 weeks, you can bet the buyer will think "hmmmm, good thing i paid with paypal".

Actually there were a couple reasons. I figured for one that it would be the easiest way to put a couple grand of it on a credit card. The second reason was convenience, and the third was not having to carry the cash.

Bro, I sent the payment over 24 hours before that. Regardless, I'm trying to work with you and get the cash ready today. You dont know me, or have a reason to trust me, and after reading this thread I have a better understanding of why paypal is a bad option.
