If you look closely, you can see that you picked up a crescent wrench somewhere along the way...most likely the wrench was binding up your driveshaft which could have slowed you down....

A customer brought this over after I told him that I could rebuild his pump.
I get a kick out of extreme neglect and carnage.

That is severe electrolysis damage. It's not just simple corrosion. There was a good deal of current in the water where that thing was sitting.
