Wiseco Pistons/ Warm up procedure?

Done a lot of reading on these, and I know a lot of you guys run them. I hear a lot about cold siezes and the importance of a warm up. How much of a warm up are we talking? Can I start it, putt around on it for a while and then rip it? Or do I need to let it warm up at like 0 throttle for a while before even jumping on the ski?

I let mine warm up for 2 minutes or so at the launch and putt around for another couple. Im just being careful cause I have about 10 tanks of fuel through my fresh motor.

What I did for dirt bikes was let it idle for 5 minutes. shut it off let it cool. idle again for another 5 minutes, then putts around easily for another 5 minutes, then rip as hard as I can go.

I start my ski on land and run at idle for a bit first. Then I get ready to ride, fuel up, etc. while the heat spreads through the motor. Then I ride 1-2 minutes at fast idle then plane before ripping. Wisecos are a pain IMO.

This is how I do it also. I dont putt around for 15 mins, why have a ski?

When I ran weiscos before I sold the motor with them, I idled out of the no wake zone which took roughly a minute and then gave it hell. Never had a problem. When I got my house on the lake and could nail it immediately off my dock, I noticed that the ski would run smoothly but didn't have very good throttle response or power for the first 30 seconds or so. I think Weisco's are the best out there but the majority of motors out there don't need them.

If the cylinder is matched to the piston correctly, there should be no issues with cold seizing.
I have only used wiseco pistons.... blaster , banshee, js550, trx250r, lt250r, everything.
Never once had a problem or a cold seize.

If someone claims to have a cold seize or a problem with Wisecos, they didn't have the cylinder mic'd and bored properly to fit the piston. Or who ever did the work, did it incorrectly. If this is not setup perfectly within tolerence, the engine has no chance.

I have always just started the quad, or ski and let it idle for 15 seconds or so, then take off and ride easy for a minute or 2.
After that, it's WFO.

i never had a problem, but i also had no wake zones to go through, so essentially that was my warm up period and then roll into the throttle
besides its over 110 degrees out here anyway, i doubt i would need a warm up

i've had wisecos for years and in various motors too and never an issue

Thanks everyone. My ski is basically parked on a ramp out of the water. After the initial break in period I think I'll start it, let it idle for 30-45 seconds. Then I'll hop on it cruise out of my cove, then run it half throttle or so out around an island and back which is another 45 seconds to a minute and then play around blipping the throttle as usual. No WOT runs for 3-5 minutes. Does this sound kosher, or does it need a longer warm up?

SXIPro, Good luck with the new motor. Im sure you remembered but just incase.. be sure to throw some extra oil in with the normal amount of oil you mix in your fuel, for the break in period.

Yes, that would be fine.
Did you get my reply back about this and the piston clearance?

Maybe I can offer my insight

I run in water temps from 35 degrees in the winter to 70 degrees in summer.
I have three different cooling restrictor sizes I run with varying water temps. But my procedure is always the same. I start it on the trailer for maybe 10 seconds.
I idle out of the no wake one, then take it somewhat easy for a minute until the handwarmers show me hot water.
Then I go ride however I want.

Yes I did Chuck. Thank you. As always I truly appreciate your insight. Pistons go in tomorrow. Send some motor guru good karma my way.Last time I tried to drop the cylinders on while holding the rings in place I nearly gave up this hobby. Luckily my buddy showed up in the nick of time. An extra set of hands made it a breeze.
