so ive begun to work on the ski to get rid of the waterlogged foam and have taken off the turf in preparing to cut out the tray but my question is this. I notice that most people cut there footholds out. But would it be possible to cut out everything and leave the footholds on so i don't have to buy another set?? i know itll make gettin the foam out harder from behind the footholds but i dont feel like buyin another set. its my first time attempting this so if anyone has any suggestions from stuff they learned to make it easier that would be cool as well
thanks rod

You can save the footholds. You can also cut out the footholds and reglass them in. Spend a couple days figuring out the best way to proceed. Once you've decided on the best possible scenario, think about how you will get the wet foam out and reglass it all back together.

im doing a foothold swap as well and once i got my old 24-7s out i found all my closed cell foam is waterlogged as well
id rather have to replace my crank than the foam
refoaming totally blows!

What are you going to replace the foam with if anything? My ski is apart right now and I'm trying to decide what to replace it with before sealing it back up with my new footholds.. I sealed the bond line and put in drains, but I'm thinking of either:

a) no foam, just lots of fiberglass to make the tray sturdy. maybe add another bilge pump in the engine compartment on separate switch/wiring to make me feel better about not sinking the ski someday.
b) polystyrene insulation from HD or Lowes cut into blocks and play 3D tetris
c) I have us composites 2 part foam (but never want to have to pull waterlogged foam out again)

What is your plan? I'm leaning towards no foam.

yes, I also have a 4' x 8' sheet of the 3/4" pink insulation polystyrene, but I can also use that in the crawlspace of my house if it doesn't get used on the ski. My local Home Depot also has a 2" pink sheet for around $26, but I'm surprised at the heavy weight of the pink insulation polystyrene.
