windows update now no internet

Just wanted to ask you a computer question.


Moondance did a windows update today, now her laptop will connect to my wireless system to the house and it even says so on the computer. but wont connect to the internet, I hit diagnose the problem and it says there is not any problem.

my laptop updates all the time and has no issues.

where do I start???

Yea maybe try killing the firewall all together....start...run....services.msc...disable firewall and also stop it.

If still no go then reinstall the wifi driver for that unit.

Thanks Mat - tried that & it didn't work. I had this same problem some ago & disabled Norton. Seemed to have worked for the time being. So this time I am in the process completely uninstalling it - geez, how long does it take. Anyway, not sure if it was a fluke, but something changed. I could probably do better at brain surgery than knowing what goes on with this stuff. My Office suite is also screwed, but that's been since before the updates. I can't open any of my excel or word documents. And if I create a new document, it will save it, but won't let me open. I uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, changed & short of smashing my laptop, did everything I know to do.

Anyway, thanks for the help. Glad to know you guys are multi-knowledgable. New word - now available in the Moonie dictionary !

Beat it with a floor jack, It didnt help but made me feel so much better.

go to internet options
go to connections tab
click button that says LAN settings

uncheck proxy server if it is checked
check automatically detect settings

click ok
close internet explorer and restart

I did try this but I didnt close internet and restart. What does that do when you uncheck it than when its checked??

Did it work? Was the proxy server box checked?
