Will I die if I try a backflip?

I've got access to riding with / behind a top of the line wakeboard boat. It makes huge crisp wakes.
It has crossed my mind to try to pull a back flip off it... I've never ridden my SXR in surf, not many large jumps, and I don't have any major skill. Just a sub & fountain guy. What are my odds at hucking one?

What if i make half a rotation? How violent / dangerous, is it to have a SXR fall 12ft. out of the sky and land on me?

What if I make 3/4's of the flip? Cool nose stab or over the bars, nose catchin' eye peeler?

Any advise?

As long as you stay connected to the ski, you won't have it fall on you.
I don't think you'll be 12ft up, either.
I hear that landing a Backflip wrong is much less painful than a failed Barrel Roll.

I've got footholds, pole rope, hood straps, wet pipe, low end pump set up, etc...

Thought I'd pull the visor off my dirt helmet and wear it too.

Any advise on form?

get it straight in your mind first.

The Key here is to have a confidence.
You must be committed to holding the ski and following through.

After that its a little timing on the throttle and cranking your head back as your body will follow.
the only way to really pancake is to get out of the tray or freak out mid rotation.
You must be commited...it must be clear in your mind that you ae going to do it.

Landing a back flip wrong can be much more serious than a roll. if you land it flat, you could break your foot or leg. Just ask Stricky or parrdaddy. The altitude tends to always be higher than a roll, meaning more momentum hitting the water.

With rolls you better be wearing a helmet so you don't bust an eardrum, but with flips, there's not much you can do to protect yourself besides starting by under-rotating the flips until you can consistantly land them at 270 degrees or slightly more (being in deep enough water as well obviously) so that you nose them softly in.

:werd: Half a backflip is way less painful than half a barrel roll. Just keep your hands and feet connected to the ski and it's fine.

At the risk of soundin like an idiot-I was gonna keep my mouth shut-but all yall already know that I am an idiot.

I've backflipped my crf450 several times landing on round bales of hay (Alabama Foam Pit). W/a computer designed ramp-all u got to do is hang on 4 the ride and start spottin yer landing immediately after u take off. And knowin yer goin to haybales u don't need a sack!!!LOL

Soo-I think due to tha ability to push/pull a SXR-u don't need much vertical height, just timing to push foot tray and pull on bars as hard as u can-soo-
heres my mental back flip

good sharp boat wake-the second the rear comes off of top of wake-push/pull 1 time real hard-now ski is perfectly horizontal upside down-u r spotting the landing by lookin back as far as u can and push/pull again as hard as u can to nose it in. KEEP IN MIND-this is my pea sized brain in action-
Not my actions teachin my pea sized brain. After Lanier-I was amazed at how much vertical air the top pro's in the world needed to be able to pull a perfect backy!!! I never imagined it would take that much vert to be able to nail it. B4 Lanier-2 beers and I'd of tried like hell to pull 1-now I'm 2nd guessin the heck out of myself. Let us know how it goes-or lets arrange a ride together and we can have a big weenie contest to see who tries it 1st. I seem to do alot better under a ton of pressure-say-300 peeps starin while I was at Lanier-the ultimate-'lets try something stupid' playground.

I would just say, grab your balls, and go do it, its only water... its only got to hurt a bit....

Actually
Yes you will die

Slowly and painfully :haha:

Unless you don't hold back, then you will be fine. Just keep that locked in your head, if you chicken out it will hurt, if you lean back and pull the throttle you will make it  Just do it. Up one wave, down into the trough of the other, line it up, start pulling back, hit the gas and hang on..............hand on and hang on...........it can be scary but no matter what hang on. I have only done 1/2 a flip off a wake (never done a full one) and it really does not hurt if you if you hold onto the ski. I let the ski go one time and that was the last time I tried..........I seriously thought I broke some ribs and almost dislocated my shoulder.......and almost broke my ski.

Roll.

ummmmmm well not quite true, i have a busted up face today to counter that point

so let me rephrase that :
so long as you stay connected to the ski and keep your hands on the bars you'll be less likey to have it fall in you

but to keep sure buy a full face helmet
