Super Jet Wide tray.. Is it worth it?

Thinking of widening my tray this off season on my 95 sn. Already going to be defoaming and reinforcing, so we'll see. If I widen it, that means I have to make my own footholds, but I don't think that'll be too bad.

What's your guy's experience with wide trays? Are they worth it? Is it a lot of work? Can you just run the exhaust straight across the bottom then?

I have no problems with the stock tray width, but if it's that much of an improvement maybe I'll do it.

Thanks for the insight!

IMO it is very worth it. I love wide trays. It makes the ski much more sensitive to body input. It allowed me to use my feet a lot more to help steer the ski. It also helped with balancing. I widened the tray on my SN and my backie chan I now ride has a wide tray and its great. It feels weird to ride a stock hull now. I had cut my tray out and packed it with pink foam. I then used 2 part foam to get the shape I wanted and glassed over it to desired strength. It was fairly easy compared to building the nose and pole bracket area on my ski.

Is it easier to stand toe to heel with feet in line or toe to heel with your feet 14" apart?

But ya it's totally worth it. One of the nest mods I have done so far to my fx1. I can say it wouldn't hurt to do it to a superjet.

Sweet! Thanks for the insight so far :). Really considering it now. I'm planning on just widening the tray, not changing the gunwales height etc. What'd you use for footholds byeai?

Nice! Wish those were in my budget. I need holds that lock me in good.. But I'll probably have to make my own, something that's not adjustable though. I don't think that'll be too hard since it's just off of the tray walls.

Over 200+ isn't realistic right now for holds. I'm thinking I'll make some decent holds that are ledges off of the tray walls. I've got an idea in mind now :) just gotta find the right height so I can add 25mm/25mm pad and be locked in tight.

Errr merrrr geeeerrrd wide tray! Hands down my favorite hull mod ever! The wide stance helps with recovery.

I'm considering it more now, but I'm still pretty intimidated to do it lol. Mostly worried about what I'm going to do on the sides of the tray along with my own footholds.. I'm thinking of keeping starting my cut about 1/2 inch or so before that little ledge on the top of the gunwale where your turf goes up against. From there, using 1/2inch width sheet foam and glassing over that, but then I gotta figure out how I'm going to mount fixed footholds there. We'll see when I get there, it'll make more sense then.

Those don't work with a super wide tray, that's my point. I've got his oldstyle holds in my ski right now, and I've got another awesome set I was going to put in, still might, unless I endup making a wide tray. With a wide tray your foothold options are limited.

I like my wide try and home grown adjustable foot holds. The RRP's are real narrow if you don't widen the tray.

Well I rode with a standard width tray and tom21 footholds for this season and I did love it! However, I'm gonna shorten my ski this off season and I think a wider tray and adjustable holds would be nice..
What do you think of widening the tray to the turf line on the top of the gunwales, so basically super super thin gunwales, as wide as you can get it? I would be reinforcing the hell out of it for adjustable holds for sure though.

It'll probably be a quarter inch thick, and padding to avoid that if needed. My adjustable holds would be similar to this, just adjustable lengthwise slots
