Why "Braaapp, braaap, braaap"?

So, my wife asks me (paraphrase), "Why do jet skiers ride around going braaapp, braaap, braaap?" What she meant was, why do most riders seem to blip the throttle constantly while riding? I was stumped for a moment.

Is it some cross over from another sport? I don't remember do that on a dirt bike.
Is it just the "feel good" factor of hearing your ski's engine respond?
Is it some nervous twitch that jetskiers suffer from, like tourette's or something?

My best guess is ths: the guys who do this either suffer from poorly jetted carbs and have to compensate by fluctuating the throttle, or are used to having skis like that so do it out of habit. I do this, and also after a high-speed run, I'll blip the throttle a little instead of just chopping it off (after reading Klemm's warning of too-small main jets).

just tell her by blippin the throttle you conserve fuel b/c it keeps the diferentiallator spooled up and the quasi-shaft bearings well lubricated :noevil:

There's your answer.

A friend asked me why I did this the other day, I realy did not know how to answer.lol I think I do it, just so I know where I am at in the power. I love the way a B-pipe sounds though as well, I cant lie. My Superjet I have to do stabs, subs, everything going pretty fast, the impeller is all about mid to topend power, I got 10-19 scat going on there, that should help.

It's habitual. My carbs are tuned well, so that's not it.
Dunno...I just like doing it.

well we dont say "braaaaaaap", we say "braap" "braap", so I would imagine alot of us do it. I do it for flatwater alot just so I always know where im at on the powerband and its easier to blip the throttle then to keep it at a constant spot.

Old, but still ridin'!!!
You guys aren't thinking of the biggest reason to do it. By blipping the throttle, you keep the water box drier so throttle response is better/crisper.

(idle your ski to the dock, shut it off, pull it out of the water and start it, watch how much water comes out of the exhaust).

But then again, yeah.....what he said too!

No he will not!
I'm thinking your ski feels snappier when doing this since the engine is allowed to begin revving with less load on the motor, plus as Glory says it helps keep the water box dry......and all this with my well tuned Full Specs.

I miss you guys :frown:
