Open registrations for 2nd IFWA Free Ride World Championship 2006
The registrations are open until March 21, they are 34 places for the category stand-up and the better of the previous year 15 already have guaranteed place, and 16 for sit-donw, and the better 8 in the ranking also. There won't be category amateurs, just a single category “open.â€
The European tour will begin in Portugal, 21 to 23 April , proceeding for Spain, 28 to the 30 April and France,05 to 07 of May.

2006 Rulebook of IFWA Freeride World Championship
Introduction
· The 2nd IFWA Freeride World Championship consists of 5 events : Portugal (21 to 23 April 2006); Spain (28 to 30 April 2006); France (5 to 7 May 2006); United States (14, 15 October 2006); Brazil (24 to 26 November 2006). For more information, consult the official IFWA website www.ifwa.com.br or contact directly each organization.
· Overall the World Championship : only the 4 better scores will be counted. In case of tie, highest scores in the running events will prevail.
· Each event is organized by representatives of the IFWA ; each representative of IFWA has autonomy to create partnerships with their respective Federations or Associations, in order to promote and to accomplish the event in the best way. Representatives of the IFWA will be present on each event to supervise the application of the rulebook, as well as to give support to the organizers in each event. The IFWA also intends to make possible the presence of international media to create a great international impact and to get good coverage for the sponsors.
Event format
· 50 riders maximum
· 2 categories : Stand Up (SU) and Sit Down (SD)
· 3 rounds, semi-final round, final/consolation round
· Scoring/Judging : riders are scored by 5 judges, scoring is based on 50% wave jumping/tricks and 50% wave surfing, scoring: total of judges score with high and low score dropped.
· Round 1
o 34 SU maximum and 16 SD maximum
o 8 minute heats (2 riders in the water per heat)
è Riders to advance to Round 2 :
· 24 SU maximum :
- Top 15 current IFWA World Tour points automatically advance to Round 1
- Excluded the previous top 15, top 4 scores from Round 1 advance to Round 2
- 5 IFWA Wildcards (1 per organization : Portugal, Spain, France, USA, Brazil)
· 12 SD maximum :
- Top 4 current IFWA World Tour points automatically advance to Round 2
- Excluded the previous top 4, top 3 scores from Round 1 advance to Round 2

NB : for the first event of the World Tour 2006 (Portugal), the reference of the “current IFWA World Tour points†is the 2005 final score.

Other informations
· Jet considered Stand Up: Yamaha SuperJet/FX1, Kawasaki SX/SXI/SXR, Polaris Octane, HydroJet and their similar ones. The other models are included in the category Sit Down (included Sea Doo 3D, Kawasaki X2, Yamaha WaveJammer). All modifications are free, but security must be conserved. A smole rope is mandatory on the nose of the jet to facilitate the rescue operations. A technical control will be done by the representatives IFWA during the first day of the registrations. One jet could be excluded if the previous conditions are not respected.
· An annual membership fee of 50 US dollars must be paid by each rider to be affiliate to the IFWA; this affiliation fee must be paid before the first event where the rider wants to participate. Attention : the affiliation to the IFWA is not an license and not an insurance.
· Riders must wear the official contest jacket, supplied by the organization, during the heats and award ceremony. If not, riders will stopped immediately the event and will be excluded of the IFWA.
· During practice and competition, riders must use the following equipment :
o Mandatory : Wetsuit, Life Vest, Dorsal protection, Helmet, Official contest jacket ;
o Optional : Gloves and boots.
· Riders compete in pairs (heats) during the 3 rounds, the semi-finals and finals, but they are judged separately. However, the judges may adjust the scores after viewing all the riders heats.
· Riders will be judged by a panel of 5 judges, of which the highest and the lowest score will be dropped. The judges will grant up to 20 points per heat: 10 points maximum for jumps and 10 points for surfs.
· Judging criteria and format of the event will be constant and includes:
o Amplitude: determined by the height, size or extension of the maneuver (jump or surf) ;
o Degree of difficulty: determined by the complexity and extension the maneuver (jump or surf) ;
o General impression: determined by the general performance, diversity, creative value of maneuver.
· Maneuvers should be performed in the critical point of the waves with speed and strength.
· Riders should maintain physical contact with the jet during the reception of the jump or the surf. If riders lose the jet, the maneuver will not be scored.
· Before each heat, riders should have their jet ready in the competition area on the beach. To go in the water, riders must await the sign of the beach marshall. The beginning of the heat is given by the sound of the siren and the green flag. The finish is given by the sound of the siren and the red flag. After that, riders must return immediately to the beach. The yellow flag is used to indicate the last 3 minutes of the heat.
· Priority on the wave is given to the rider who starts his surf ride, prepares his aerial jump at the most critical part of the wave; if the other rider interferes, he may receive an interference call and may be disqualified of the round.
· Any rider who has a mechanical problem before the beginning of the heat should cross his arms toward the race director. If the race director recognizes the problem, the heat doesn’t start and the rider has 3 minutes to repair. In any case, the heat begins after these 3 minutes. In a similar case, any rider who has a mechanical problem during the 1st minute of the heat should cross his arms in the water toward the race director. If the race director recognizes the problem, the chronometer is stopped and the rider needs to come back on the beach with his jet. After that, the rider has 3 minutes to repair. In any case, the heat continues after these 3 minutes, considering the time already passed in the first part of the heat. A rider is allowed to change his jet before or during a heat, but in this last case, the rider must come back on the beach with his jet. If the rider lets his broken jet in the water, he will be disqualified on the round.
· All claims must be written and given to the race director. Claims will be studied in an appropriate time. Any aggressive behavior (physical or verbal) of a rider against the race director or other people will be sanctioned by the IFWA by an definite exclusion of the rider of the IFWA.
· Any rider who wants to protest again the results of one round or other has 15 minutes after the publication of the results on the official board of the event.
· Some differences in the schedules may happen on the events. For example, in case of bad weather conditions, each organization can decide of some modifications according the validation given by the representatives of the IFWA. In case of major force, organizers of one event can modify the dates of the event or cancel it.
· Price money will be established by each organization and previously announced, as well as conditions of registrations included the help offered to the riders.
