FX-1 Which direction do seals go?

Im replacing the bearing and seals in my midshaft as part of the 140mm pump conversion.
I didnt pay any attention when removing the stock seals but i have 3 new 20x52x7 seals with SS garter springs read to be put in (i was told i needed two, one for each side but ordered an extra. It looks like i can fit two on each so I may order a 4th and do that)

So which way should i put the seals in? I googled a bit and read that the direction is important and that the spring should be on the side the is containing whatever. So im in containing the grease from coming out by putting the springs facing the bearing or am I keeping the water from coming in by having the springs face outward. Or possible one of each??

You want to keep the water out. Make sure to put some grease in between the seals.

The front seal has a spring that will face out(toward the engine). In the back, you have 2 seals. The inner seal is the same as the front seal with the spring facing out, however the rear seal doesn't have a spring. This seal is double lipped and has a goldish band that faces out toward the water(upper right hand corner in this pic below.)

Ok, thanks. The threads i have read about the 140mm conversion said just to use one seal on each side. If i can fit both im guessing i should run 2 on each or could there be a possible downside to that?

The outside seal wears faster than the inner. Put a little grease between them to keep the inner seal wet. The idea is to keep water out of the bearing.
