WOW, 135/135?
I am running 120/150 with a bpipe, C4 chamber
ported 61x 718cc MSD 185 psi
Yep
83mm bore decked cylinders and ported.
Mild case porting
Wetjet reed stuffer intake, ported
Carbon reeds
210 psi
Bpipe bored out and a mod chamber.

I've found on a couple motors I've experimented with, if you want that snappiness of extreme ported cylinders if you add some compression to it, it makes a big difference. I don't build and sell motors, and I'm a small budget guy so I've been experimenting with cheaper setups, like 61x motors and single carbs. I think next I'm going to do a 4mil stroker, SBN44's on an 82mm bore. 62t cases and 61x cylinders. It's not "cheap" but I'm gonna squeeze all I can out of it. I usually run stock ignitions too, and my 735 feels awesome.

I tried running reverse jetting but I could never get the correct snap. I think I might try your set up if I have the jets. I am running 190 psi and am going to try an MSD...I am guessing you are running race fuel? or a 50/50 mix at that high of compression?

I run 4 gallons of Shell AV fuel to one part 93, also shell. I use Amsoil. I'm also in a low elevation area that very humid, so my jetting may not work for you.

I am at low elevation as well but no humidity here. I don't remember the reverse jetting settings I used but they weren't quite on it. I switched back to standard and got much better low end response. My carb is blocked right now so I really can't tell anything as far as responses go but the idea of having it bored to 48 mm is very interesting to me. With it bored I am guessing jetting would need to be moved up?

your jetting will need to change. but, if i were you and lived that close to art at blackjack, i'd have him bore it, tell him where/what you ride and hell hook you up. the only thing youll have to do is tweak the mixture screws when he's done.

For a black jack conversion, he charged me 200 a carb this time last year, you obviously provide your carb and he cuts it down , presses the bell top in, replaces shaft and butterfly. Jets accordingly and new gaskets, haven't touched my mix screws, one phone call and get it done, his is a 61x guru. I don't think he'd advise the reverse jetting. I went thru months of test and tunes, plug readings and goofy tweaks, finally I called him and told him exactly what I had, pipe prop zero flywheel and he made it all jive, best decision I made, trust me,i for one can never leave anything alone,I blew alot of cash prior to this on parts and suggested setups, it was very taxing and frustrating, now I just ride it, and have not had any issues! By no means am I a salesman, just stating my experience. Good luck

reverse jetting isnt easy. i was at a 115 and 150 and i was close. but, me and my friend who sets up race boats said screw it lets try it. he does his race boats for bottom end and seems to like reverse jetting better.
so, his shop is in his back yard. and so is his pond. so i had the luxury of beaching it, changing jets or turning screws and jumping back on the ski. then once i felt the ski was good, we started doing plug readings. then daytona came, so i didnt get it dead on. i want to lean out the top a little bit.

I am stubborn and usually learn by mistake or by my frustration levels increasing, resulting in more change. I don't have the luxury of my ride spot close by, it's about 1.5 hr away, or the river which is 20 mins but full of cops and nonsense. Now with an infant and a 2 year old I do not get to ride nearly as much as I used to, it's even harder to tune for hours and travel to and from ride spots, I don't really let others wrench on my boats but there are a few exceptions, I am a mechanic by trade and always thought to do something right I must do it myself...especially with my skis, not to get personal on a 61x thread, But my decision to send my carbs to art was the single most stress relieving decision I made, i was ready to give up and just ride my my blaster for good. when I popped them on and ripped on the throttle it was all smiles, so linear and smooth yet still pulling and hitting on the pipe, it's like he took my whole engine and gave it back, no light switch effect and no cavitation which I had down low slightly before , maybe not a miracle to some, but for my dollar and situation as far as time management it was a no brainer. Granted to those interested... Give Art some time and he will make it right, I sent them late October and got them back in January, some like to bash and trash some folks when they don't get their property or parts back in 3-5 days cause they eagerly want to ride and time is limited. Good luck guys!

-This all being said, their are alot of excellent tuners and builders here, do not be discouraged to call all them either,be upfront and honest with you setup and future intentions.. I chose Art and have done more business with him since and enjoy his up front honesty and insight, but grab a chair if you call him. Take a leak, he'll talk your ear off, if you speak to him, ask about the Jetworks mono reeds, they are pretty sweet for the 701s he'll dial you guys in!

I've following this closely today, as I will be in the same situation soon. I planned on staying with the 44 for now.
For what it's worth I ran a blackjack 46 on a limited 61x setup. Arts specs where dead on and it was as mentioned above very linear and smooth power throughout. I may just go that route again down the road. Right now it's a budget build and the 44 will be just fine for a long time.

46's can be had for fairly cheap too. I just hate that thd wetjet carbs spacing for the studs are different, so you have to use the wetjet intake.

I messaged Art and here is the reply I got last night.

We stopped modifying owners carbs, many times they needed extra parts and when all done the customer was only saving 50.00 over a brand new one. A new 46 mm Modified Blackjack carb is 489.95 jetted and the 48.3 mm is 599.95 jetted.
Thank You,

Anyone have any other referrals?
Pick up a wetjet intake, or a regular 46sbn and jet accordingly. Open up the intake a little bit, be done. If you're gonna spend $600 on a single carb, get an A/M intake and dual 38's and jet accordingly. And still spend less.
