I’d strongly recommend putting the strap around both the ‘ski AND the trailer, not just the ‘ski.

Yeh. The trailer slid down the levee and the ski ripped the screws right out the bunks. Its all good. The more damage to the bottom, the better they handle, so I hear. It's already got an aluminum shoe and a pump that's ate more rocks than Rick James so what's it gonna hurt
