Super Jet whats wrong with my ski??

so my ski revs up on the stand but when i put it in the water it wont. in the water it runs but wont even plane out just goes a couple mph and is real boggy and dies if you give it alot of gas. on the stand when you rev it, it sounds like it has a littl airleak cause it keeps running for a few seconds after you let off the gas. i checked any visible gaskets/seal/hoses but havent found the culprit. any ideas? what are common sources of airleaks? is it possible this could be an electrical problem?

heres what im running - 760, b pipe, ada head, dual 44s with dual pickups, msd enhancer.

I'm not sure, but I am guessing it runs good on the stand but not in the water.

Salt or freshwater?

leaded or unleaded fuel?

What size shoes are you wearing when the problem occurs?

Seriously tho, from MY experience a air leak will show up worse on a stand than in the water. It almost sounds like when load is added (water) that the problem is now showing up-ie not enough fuel. Check filters in carbs to be sure they are clean, external filter, and see what you find. Keep us posted as you dig deeper.

A lean fuel situation is the same as a air leak.

yeah i was thinking about pulling the carbs and checking them... the rear cylinder appears to be running lean.

Not slamming you, just asking. Do you know about the little filters in the carbs? If your plugs don't look even, that my be it. (or possible weak comp on rear cyl causing weak pulse signal to rear carb).

if your running duals make sure the coupler between the carbs is tight and your plates are even, ive fell for this more then once

runs on the trailer then you put it in the water bogg bogg WTF!!

If your carbs check out you may want to check your O rings on that ADA head. I had one that would blow O rings every few months or so and the ski would run strong out of water when the cooling system was dry but as soon as I dropped it in water, the cooling water would blow by the bad O-rings and the thing would run like crap.

I agree with GIL, check your internal fuel filters and while you have your carbs off make sure your circuits are nice and clean, Check your pulse lines, and when ever I have problems I always try riding with the hood off that eliminates ifyou have an exhaust leak

Also check to see if there is something clogged in your fuel lines. I did an internal fill setup and chunks of the 5200 came out and got stuck in the pick up. It would run alright on the stand and run terribly like you said in the water. Just a thought...

All the advice given is sound advice! Just be sure to check/fix one thing at a time so you know for sure what the 1 thing causing the problem was. I learned that part the real hard way. lol

I've had similar symptoms and it turned out to be dirty carbs.

Before you go crazy...dose the :):):):)e out of it with seafoam. Run it as much as you can. On or off the trailer. You might be happy.

I had purchased new gaskets etc...
A friend suggested I run some seafoam thru it first. Saved a lot of work.
(I put about 8 ounces in a full tank....ran about half the tank out b4 it was running like new.

It will smoke more. It's worth a shot.

???

I don't think that there is such a thing as a muffler bearing.

However, 6-8 oz. of seafoam added to your fuel tank is worth a try. You might have to let it idle for a while...tickle the throttle every so often.
The last time I did it it took a couple days. But it worked like a champ, and I didn't pull the carbs.
