whats wrong with my phone?!?

so last night i was snowboarding and at about 9pm i checked my phone on the chairlift for missed calls, texts, and time. i opened it up and the banner said, Car Kit.:261: i asked around and none of my buddies did it and i know i didnt. than at 10pm i let kevin borrow my phone to call his parents for a ride home. a phew seconds later, "Luc your phone sucks, its not ringing." I just ignored that i thoght he was doin sumthin wrong. (typical kevin stuff) so when i get home i try turning my phone to vibrate and it doesnt let me go past "low" volume. i try restarting it and everything, but car kit doesnt go away and i cant get to vibrate.

So i say forget it, hook it up to the charger, and go to bed. When i wake up Car Kit is gone, and i have full control of volume. a half hour ago at 9pm Car Kit comes up. i cant go past low volume, and i tried calling my sister and i hear no ringing:confused: i text her and she said she got a call from me, picked up, and heard nothing.

i asked my parents if they put a block on my calling or sumthin. but they said they didnt do anything. Has this happened to anyone else? and it's the phone in the pic if that helps ( LG Verizon )

thanks

i had a nextel get moist outside before and it kept switching into airplane mode at random times...dealer told me it was just damage from the moisture

ok, so after playin with it for a few minutes i have come to somewhat of a conclusion...

the phone has been in the snow quite a bit, i forgot to zip the pocket in my coat and it fell out, and the cover for the battery charger is broke off so it probly got wet trough there. and i found that car kit is a setting for the earpiece volume. so it is prolly what thong bandit said, its switching the earpiece volume to a carkit setting or somthin like that?? and it's a coincidence that it did that at that such a close time i guess. and i made sure the bluetooth is off.

if anyone knows how to turn carkit on and off please share. thanks

take everything apart on the phone that you can.. put it in front of a small oscillating fan overnight. plug it into the charger in the morning and i bet it works fine after that.

they dont like to work well once they get wet. ive dropped a few phones right in puddles or in the sink before. as long as you dont power them up it wont break. you have to make sure its good and dry before you repower and it will work fine.

ya i think its too late for all that. but i think im gettin a new phone for x-mas with the 1-year upgrade thing. and i have destroyed 2 phones because of water.
1 question... why do swimsuits have pockets?

Have you tried removing the battery for a few minutes? Let it's little brain forget the bad things due to lack of any power. Also a handy trick for confused laptops.

best thing for a phone when it gets wet is this. Seems a bit late in your case but good info for future problems.

Under no circumstance should you power the phone on after it gets wet. That is what causes the damage.

Take the phone completely apart and put all the parts in a tupperware container.

Put a few silica gel packets in the container. You know, those little salt packet looking things that are packed in electronics when you get them. They are shipped with electronics for a reason. They remove moisture from the electronics for you.

Or you could use this http://www.sugarbearsinc.com/
its called brown sugar bear. If you use it right it will completely remove all the moisture from the phone.

Seal it up and let it sit for at least like 12 hours. Put it all back together and power it up. You should be fine after that.

hmmm. ya i'll try that next time cuz im almost 100% sure there will be a next time. lol and i took out the battery for about a minute and no more car kit!!! yay

I am an indirect dealer for sprint/nextel, verizon, and att. I work at a service and repair (ASC) for the sprint/nextel phones.

First thing i would do is check your charging port in good light to see if corrosion is present. Then i'd pop it apart (torx bits usually) and double check for corrosion and denting to the mother board. Sometimes denting can make a phone DBR (damaged beyond repair). Sometimes even the smallest amount of corrosion and make a phone go all screwy (like salt water to our freshwater skis)

Not sure about that water kit thing, but there is litmus paper in all phones (most batteries too) that bleed red when water comes in contact. I don't think the sugarbear will fix that, and if a phone has liquid damage then it is DBR.

Glad you got her working again. Nine time out of ten a hard reset (leave device powered on and physically pull battery) fixes everything, that or a master reset to a nextel phone.

Feel free to PM if you have more questions about phone/plans/etc. I friggen hate my job but i am more then happy help out fellow board member to the best of my misinformation.

My techniquie works ONLY if you dont power the phone on after it gets wet. Powering the phone on with wet circuits is what makes it dbr. If no juice runs through it while its wet, that technique will work. Ive done it to about 25 phones and all of them recovered absolutely perfect.

That litmus paper is for the companies because they dont cover water damage. Just because its pink or red doesnt mean the phone is screwed, just means it got moisture in it and is out of warranty.
