For Example, lets say Eric Malone was a Amateur again and takes 1st place in Amateur frestyle at the World Finals. You get 2nd place. You know that you are totally legal and the guy ahead of you has a illegal hull, maybe motor..

What would you do:

1. Protest - Even though you know he has way more skills and "if" you had a ski exactly like his he would still win.. but you do know that you played fair and by the rules and thats how the game is played.

2. Tuck your tail between your legs" as not to cause a big ordeal and go congratulate him and just let it slide and take 2nd place, knowing that he still has more skills than you and if you had a ski like his you would still loose.

- I tried to make this a real poll, but screwed it up..:banghead:

I wouldn't feel right about getting 1st through whining, especially if it's clear that skills won, not money.

Nothing wrong with protesting, its usually in the rules for certain events. Without knowing all the circumstances, etc its hard to say but if its over place first or second at an event like world finals I would probably express myself.

but he broke the rules. Its not whining, its protesting. Its about cheating and breaking the rules.

So that makes it right for everyone to cheat?

I said I wouldn't feel right getting 1st that way - yes, the winner cheated. But I wouldn't take it upon myself to rat him out, especially if it's clear that skills won.

i'd say something b4 the event started. gives him a chance to get something leagle.

maby you wont be as good bumping up hull/power.. maby he will be worse bumping down since power normally hides skill/technique...

The skill level doesn't matter. Cheating is cheating. Nobody deserves a pass. That is part of the problem with the World Finals. The rules are not enforced consistently across the board. I agree with RamboRosie, protest and then move on after the decision is made.

From what I've seen, protesting would be a waste of time . . . . . a friend of mine got cheated out of a podium finish a WF's. The announcer saw and mentioned the infraction during the race, there was video of it availible for review and there were others who confirmed the infraction . . . . . . . .

It was not overturned after lengthy appeal . . . . . .

I sympathize with you and your situation, but you most likely won't get a positive result from an appeal. . . . . . . JMO

What this shows, is that the system is broken. Having better skills doesn't give you a free pass to cheat.

Lets take a racing example. Say I'm running stock ski.....and I'm consistantly beating the number 2 guy. Say I'm beating him by two full bouys every race. You'd probably be able to say that, I'm better than he is, and my skills are responsible. Now, does that make it ok for me to go ahead annnnnd, bump the compression on my ski? Maybe now I beat him by 3 full bouys every race. I was already beating him before, what's another bouy, it's skill afterall right?

cheating is the root of everyone's dismay in this whole ordeal... i know the people that conduct the event are total jackasces about dealing with the cheating but if nobody cheated it would all be fair... blame the pricks who cheat, and then change the rules

This reminds me back when I raced 650 limited ski class back in 90,91. I came in 3rd place out a full line of racers and as I came into the pits following the guy who was ahead of me that took 2nd, I noticed he had a illegal aftermarket Ocean Pro holeshot nozzle. How could tech miss that?!?!
I wasnt going to protest but my Dad talked me into it and I lodged my complaint. Needless to say I moved up and so did everyone else. I felt weird going to protest but the more I thought about it the more I said F that guy, I played fair and he didnt and that is what the protesting rules are there for.

In many road racing events, the top 3 guys automatically get tech'd. If you are on a podium, you are checked out before you get your trophy.

I don't know what you should do, but maybe the rules need to change to something like this.
