I am looking to get into freestyle i am set on a superjet but i was wondering if the square nose would good for freestyle. I dont know if it matters but i weigh 125 pounds suggestions welcome i am looking to spend around 3000
Buy the cleanest most reliable thing you can afford. If you have $3000, take the minty all stock RN over the beat up modified square nose. If you have $4500, buy a minty modified RN, but don't buy something rough just because it has parts on it. You are better off with a $3000 minty stocker and $1500 in your pocket for upgrades than a $4500 worn out piece of crap.
a SN has the same bottom deck so handling will be similar, but reliability due to age and build quality (such as the pole breaking, and needing conversion brackets to run newer poles) are an issue. If you can't afford a RN, buy a clean SN, but don't buy a RN just because it's a RN, buy it because it's cleaner.
I spent $800 on my 650sx and never rode. I put my X2 together with old worn out parts and it ripped, but rarely ran. I bought a 2004 all stock minty RN SJ for $2800, it was the least powerful of all 3 skis, but the damned thing runs like a top. I almost never pick up a wrench, and when I do, it's usually to tune or modify it more to my riding. I ride 2-3 times per week, and the only reason I didn't before is because my other skis were always broken. If there is one thing I wish I had done, it was spend that $3000 on my 1st ski (instead of the $800 to be cheap) and have something I could ride for years. I'm very happy with my RN, not because it's a RN, but because I can always go enjoy it.
Your 1st ski should be reliable, not powerful. There's no better advice than that.
