What is the deal with salesman today...

Went to my local dealer today to find out about my hood (I will get to that later). I told the salesman that I had a 2005 SuperJet, which I have had less than 1 year, and the paint was coming off the hood. She said, so you have a jet boat. I said "no, I have a SuperJet Personal Water Craft, it is the stand-up kind", the look was priceless. She was so perplexed, the look of "Yamaha does not make a stand-up ski" and she looked confused. At this point she looked like she was thinking "this guy has no f'n clue what he is talking about, I have been working here 8 years and never have I heard such a thing" (this is my perception of what she was thinking based on the look she gave me). Understanding her confusion, I told her to pull out a PWC brochure so she could see what I was talking about. Shure enough, the last page is a matrix of the different models and there it was a SuperJet. Oh, OK... now what is going on?

I get the same thing when I bought my car back in 2002, all the salesman could tell me was the regurgitation of the product brochure. Here is your glovebox, it has a 3.0L v-6 engine. 5 speed automatic, intermittent wipers, 5 disc CD... I know that, I can read a freaking sticker. How soon can I put a supercharger on this thing?

Why don't people learn the products they sell. If I were a salesman I would learn product brochures back and forth, test drive the merchandise (computers, TVs, car, whatever), read reviews.

I know the hoods on most Yamaha PWC sucks, pulled the old reg. stickers off on my Blaster and the paint came off. Tried to remove the race numbers on my 2000 and paint would have come off, so I stopped.

I want to get it fixed free while I can. Even though wishfully I would like to get a sr-71 hood, lowered bracket and nose. Pfft. In my dreams.

i had the opposite problem. when i was working as a salesman at a yam shop, everyone would look at me like i was nuts when i mentioned the idea of a stand up... "they make those things still? why would i want one of those?"

it killed me. i didn't sell even one SJ while i was a salesman. i couldn't stand it when an athletic guy in his 20s would buy a large 3 seater. at least i can tell them "told ya so" when i see em out on the water and they try some of my toys!

i even brought in videos to play. "that's pretty cool, but i wanna bring passengers"

Right, then go buy a boat.

I see a runabout PWC as a utility watercraft. Like lake patrol, life guard, flood search and rescue. But if you ever go riding with others, you better buy 2 b/c unless you are skiing no one wants to be the passenger.

i just had to have my hood repainted on my 04. appears they didnt prime the hood to begin with...they (yamaha) just painted it. found a local body shop to paint it black for 125 bucks. but trust me on this.....if you do get it painted it will have to be completely and i mean completely stripped as the stock paint will come undone even worse if a coat of new paint is sprayed over top of it. if you do strip it with chemical stripper use one that is safe for fiber or bumpers and do not let it sit on the glass too long....just enough to weaken the paint and use a plastic squeege or something of the sort to get the paint off. been down this whole road. dont even think about buying a yamaha hood....you would be cheaper to get an aftermarket one. oh and those damn stickers that go underneath of the superjet logo...the silver black and red ones.......yeah well those are 50 bucks a pop!!

You're not working there anymore? What happened?

left there in june. all throughout summer i work at summer camps since the schedules are great and i get paid a lot to do it. then at the end of summer i do volunteer work (ronald mcdonald camp among others). now i'm finishing up my flight instructors license so i can start teaching next month.

i still technically work for them. i do his customers test rides and will still be working his boat shows. i guess he appreciates having a salesman that actually knows all the info haha. the best part is i can still walk in there and get whatever i want at cost. :woot:

I think I can answer this one. Have you ever seen how most sales people are never at the same dealership for more than a few months. They never have enough time to learn about the actuall item they are selling, but they could talk your ear off about how different dealerships treat people.

I don't think I have ever ran into someone who was at a dealership for more than a year. And it would be one thing if they just stuck with GM, or ford, or hondas or etc.... But nope, they jump around to try them all.... Or so how it goes around here anyhow.

Although, from my understanding, I heard that GM works with a lot of its dealers and trys to come down and answer questions that any salesmen have... and a lot of other makers don't.
