21 eh?

That's not nice of me. That's your sister we're talking about.

I have hard contacts. They come out easily so I do not wear them in the water.

Main reason of my post, is to stomp the myth about contacts going behind your eye. It is impossible for the contact to go behind your eyes. There are muscles connected to your eye ball, that is what makes them move. The contact can only go back as far as the muscle and then it cannot go back any farther. Say it goes to the top of your eye as far as it can go, if you look down, you can still see the edge of the contact. It can get pretty far back there, but not to the point you can't get it out and defenatly not behind the eye.

Yeah, contacts can't go behind your eye. I've had them get as far as they can go. They usually just taco and you can feel it in there. I've only had a couple times where I had to have someone else help me get it out.

But I don't have to deal with that anymore.

I used to wear contacts. I've also worn many different types of contacts as I was a contact study tester. Some contacts will fit great and stay put and some will move at the slightest touch.

On the water contacts were a bit of a pain in the ass depending on what kind I was wearing. I got laser eye surgery almost 2 years ago and it's been one of the greatest things ever. One of the best things I've noticed is that I don't have to wipe the water away from my eyes immediately after coming out of the water.

I was 23 when I got it done. I qualified at 18 but they wanted me to finish school since my eyes would still be changing. Looking back, I despise contacts and glasses. It was such a simple procedure I don't see how anyone would not want to do it.

Yeah it would be nice to be able to see after I come up from a sub. The water runs off my hair and into my eyes so I have to keep them shut just a little to long. Im 18 now, I should probably wait to get surgery done, but it would be very nice to see without glasses or contacts.

Yeah, it would be best to wait until close to mid 20's. Although it is a simple procedure and they can make corrections. Some places have free corrections for life but they charge around 5g's. The place I went, Siems Lasik, was $3000 and I have to pay $150 for corrections. Still cheaper and I shouldn't ever need a correction.

It costs them so much money just to get the card from the manufacturer to activate the laser. In short, all they really do is use a machine to map out the shape of you eye and put that info into the laser and it automatically corrects the shape. The weirdest part is when they have to cut the outer lens and flip it back. But it doesn't hurt or anything.

I have seen videos of the procedure being done, very weird stuff. It looks painful as hell, but the people do not even flinch. Then when its done they flip the flap back over and looks perfectly normal.

Yeah, it was kind of cool. They tell you to just stare at the laser. Then it starts working its magic. If you move your eye 1mm in any direction the whole thing shuts off.

Can you blink and how long does the whole thing take?

They have your eye held open Clockwork Orange style. But they are constantly putting drops in your eye; different things to numb and keep lubricated. Then the doc puts a suction thing on your eye to hold it still as he cuts the flap with a laser. The suction cup is really the only thing you feel; it's just some pressure. After the flap is pulled back the suction thing is removed and you just stare at the laser; like if you were staring at a grocery store item checker laser. Then the flap is put back on. They do one eye at a time. You then have to have your eyes shut for so long. They tape shields to your eyes and give you some Valium. Then you go home and sleep. For me the burning sucked. Luckily I had some Vicodin around and I was good. After that you have some prescription eye drops that you have to use. Antibiotics and steroids and such. I even had to do a drug test while I was still using the steroid drops and it didn't matter. I told them and they didn't care.

It doesn't take very long. I don't really know how long it took for me but I'd say it was under 30 mins from when I walked into where the laser was to when I was leaving.

Also, if you saw a video with a mechanical blade cutting that flap they don't do that anymore. They use a laser and it's much better.

I saw that video a long time ago, I can hardly remember. But I bet it was the tool that they do not use anymore since it was a while ago. Thanks for all the info!

My scrip isn't that strong, so I dont usually wear my glasses in the water. But if I were, I'd wear my goggles with my RX inserts that I use for MX.

I have these, and they RULE.
