What are some problems with scuppers?!?!?!?!

When the rubbers wear, they tend to leak a little. I have two somewhat leaky scuppers.

Not a huge deal though, I don't mind it. But if you're going to sit in the middle of a lake with some buddies, you'd better have a bilge pump to empty your hull.

I gladly deal with the hassle it creates because of how fast it empties water out of the hull.

And what would you guys like to see in a "well" made scupper?

That sounds like your going to make them. Yes they do leak a tiny bit but my main complaint is for $100 you get an aluminum ring and a tiny flap of rubber.

If someone wanted to install dual scuppers it would be an easy $250 with shipping, tubes, and epoxy.

I don't have a scupper and won't install one. To many problems. My friends ski can't sit in the water without getting a lot of water in it. The biggest problem I see is you can't just chill out in the water without your ski getting water in it.

We sat in party cove at lake of the ozarks for 3 hours floating around and only hit the pumps every 15 minutes or so to pump the water out. No problems. Maybe he has the screws tightened too tight. That will hold the flap open a tiny bit.

My ski came with a half-azzed plumbers 1" one way valve in it that worked perfect. I used to leave my ski floating for hours without touching the bilge.

Since I installed a 2" unit I can't leave it on shore for 5 mins with the azz in the water without it fillin right up. Not a huge deal for a freestyle machine and that 2" dump sure works great for tricks. I keep touching it up with the dremel and it leaks less every time.

If your gonna go through the hassle, make sure you get a good one. What brand is a good one I can't say. I've heard of the same problems with the $100 units as the $25 ones. I figure if I keep messing with it eventually I'll mod it till it works.

once i was riding , when i felt there was river inside my hull .. i discovered that a tiny screw was stuck in the scupper and led all the water inside .. thanks god my machine didnt drawn ;) .. make sure that you have a bildge , my double 500 bildge got the water out .. it saved my life ...

i would prefer double 800 Bildge insted of scupper ,. it will Throw the water out of the hull in sec. never worrie about water in hull again . much reliable and less maintainance

I guess scuppers are cool if you ride around in circles and do tricks (like in a world finals freestyle event). If you ride in the surf, you risk sinking/loosing your boat if it gets away from you. Also, if your ski has one of those cool metal handlepoles without flotation, it possibly might not upright itself when rolled (unlike the factory originally designed in). A perfect recipe for a sinker.

I use a 3/4" duckbill valve to help drain the bilge (after ride rinse)...and NO non floating handlepole for me.

good luck :headbang:

Just build the thing Digger!

No one out there has anything like what you want to build. That is why they all have the same common leaky problem. One way's are ok untill they break or leak out and cause wet foam.

Get er done, so we can test it out.

happened to me this weekend! However I was able get back to it in time and get it righted and bilged...no sinkage!

I can leave my REV in the water for hours on end without worrying about ANY water coming in the boat.....no scupper, that boat has a 1 way valve

Pole alone might not be enough.
You think the foam in the stock hood might have a purpose ?

Even a stock ski can sink, it's all a matter of compromises.
To me the benefits of the scupper/oneway valve setup I run far outweigh the negatives.

Next time around I will have a tube within a tube so I can replace my oneway if need be without cutting up the tray. Might be overkill since my oneway has been just fine for the past 2 years but I'll give it a try.

i agree...you cant rely on a bilge pump..you always know the scupper/one way will work....dont let go of your ski and you dont have to worry about it sinking..and if you do your buddy should be watching and flip it over before it takes on too much water
